I like a good self-indulgent weepy book every now and then.

The end of We Need to Talk About Kevin - Lionel Shriver

There are lots more but this one made me laugh out loud as well.

Anyone else admit to books that made them cry?

I used to read "Charlotte's Web" to classes of children and it was often very hard not to get caught up in the intense sense of grief when the spider croaked, as kids, at home-time, would leave my classroom and as soon as they saw their parents waiting for them, would crumple into tearful heaps.

It is an amazing book, but very sad in the end.

The Remains Of The Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. I cried like a baby at the end of both the book and the film.

PS I Love You - I hate every other Celia Aherne book I've read (so I've stopped reading them) but that one makes me sob like a girl

Funnily enough I read it at a young age as I liked Camel's album and wanted to know the story.

I read Paul Gallico in my teens, about 14 or so after my Mum recommended them to me. I have tried (and failed|) to get my teenage daughter to read them.

His books are simply wonderful.

The end of Winnie the Pooh. The conversation between Christopher Robin and Pooh about going to school is heart breaking. It's about growing up and leaving behind that make believe world that little children have. You know Christopher Robin will never be able to come back. Maybe you need to have kids for this one to affect you in that way.

The following books nearly made me cry:
Moby Dick
Where the Red Fern Grows
The Red Badge of Courage

But it had nothing to do with emotion, other than hatred of teachers for making me read them and all those wasted hours of my youth.

Tove Janssen's The Summer Book - a beautiful description of the relationship of an old woman and her granddaughter, of light and nature, and the inevitable passing of time and the joys and sadness of growing up. Wonderful.
