Arts and Entertainment / Re: Television tonight: what's worth watching?

We started watching series 2 of Blue Lights. It's good but too much character stuff, not enough plot. And by "character stuff", I mean they all appear to be shagging each other now. How dull.

Also, I've seen this story before. It's...

Well, it went in a different direction but maybe that would have been a better story.

Sticking with it but the second series is not as good as the first. Far too much relationships stuff.

I'd a bike for years which had shimmy problems.  Tried everything, including new headset, umpteen different tyre brands, new rims of front and back, professionally built..

The bike was supplied new in 1985 with Campag hubs and of course it couldn't possibly be anything to do with them.  Then I had the bike serviced again and the LBS told me my hubs could not be serviced because they couldn't get the parts any longer, or some such advice.  So I had new hubs.

Bingo!  After that the bike was steady as a rock.  I haven't ridden any other bike with shimmy, which is just as well in North Yorkshire.

I corrected shimmy on the Ti Warhorse by adding a bar bag, which changed the bars' resonant frequency.

You can also change the bike's resonant frequency by gripping the bars tightly and keeping your arms rigid.  If you get it just right the bike will start to shimmy, which will cause you to grip more tightly and make your arms stiffer yet and the shimmy worse.  BTDT on the 10% slope down off the top of Mt. Ventoux towards Malaucène and scared myself silly.

Have you watched the 2015 film Ventoux?  It was made the year I visited 'the giant' but fortunately I hadn't watched it before I made my very enjoyable whizz down the mountain.

Great to hear about the ride.  Re tyres, it'd be interesting to hear comments about those. I use Schwalbe Road Cruiser 600 x 1.75 on the expedition tourer,  tough tyre but performs well at a fair price.  Good for use on our potholed roads.

Probably daily for about 8 weeks, then alternate days for about another 2 months and then occasional unto 6-8 months.  Sounds like a collateral ligament injury.

Health & Fitness / Finger/Knuckle damage - how long is this going to hurt?
« Last post by Morat on Today at 08:59:54 am »
I was holding the top of a tackle bag for the local U13 rugby team so two sturdy lads could tackle it. Painfully, the loop on the top of the bag caught my right index finger and wrenched it sideways as about 100Kg combined went sideways at speed. Luckily the loop slipped off, but my knuckle and first joint are still painful 6 weeks later (swelling has gone). Movement is 90%, I can't quite clench a fist. The finger is strong, but hurts when I use it and then hurts at rest for some time afterwards. I find myself dropping things like heavy chopping boards or saucepans if I accidentally pick them up right handed.
Is this going to go away through the default male health regimen of ignoring it? Should I bother the GP? a Physio?
Sorry for being a bit crap... but I've been sucessfully avoiding injury for some time so I'm out of practice.

Nearby Knaresborough was flooded yesterday afternoon by 50mm of rain inside one hour.  In York we could hear the thunder of distant lightning and much later some light rain fell.

Stay crusty, Bristol!

Swindon has its own road of van-dwellers now.

Thank you everyone.
an especial thank you to Blodwyn. I had a great time and I actually had no aches and pains the next morning apart from a sprained ankle.
this is an old wound which I had physio a couple of years ago for it. I suspect it was caused by me wearing clipless shoes on ordinary platform pedals.
the bike is almost set up. I shall use the advice I was given and fit a longer aheadset stem and narrower tyres.

I cant wait to get out again.

Yep (my mum lived at the end of that road).
