Prompted by "What book are you reading", we should show our shelves with pride (or embarrassment). You might just want to show just one!

Here's a few of mine:

Seriously heavy duty shelving there, Riggers. No pics from us but I can state  with some confidence that, out of 20 dwellings in the close, ours is the only one with ANY books on display. Which makes me kind of sad . . .

Belt & Braces young Torsers. Books can weigh a ton can't they, and I hate soggy shelves. Year's ago, we had a knock at the door from a Conservative hopeful, who said he "Saw all the books through the window and thought we might be Labour, so wasn't going to knock." We confirmed we were, just to annoy him, and bid him "Good luck."

It is sad about your neighbours. Perhaps they're all under their beds?

… they're by the bed. Well, 3 of them are. Son has the remainder still. And no, I don't have any Gentlemen's pamphlets beside the bed either. No Hedge Grumble.

I've got load more books I could show.

Come on! Gizzalookatyerbooks.

I'm not ashamed of anything on my bookshelves but I am mildly embarrassed about how much of a mess they are. I may or may not take a picture later, although it might be more accurate to take a picture of my Kindle, since that is my de facto bookshelf these days - I very rarely read paper books any more.

+1

I'm still nibbling away at short stories[1] on my tablet when in bed, but I still lack the concentration[2] and shoulders to read a whole novel.  Given a web-browser I'll happily waste hours on eclectic non-fiction, though.

I've just measured our bookshelves and they total over 50m of books between home and work. So here is the first chapter, warts and all.

Fortunately I had some "before" and "after" photos:

Half the Main Library in mid-reorganisate.  Some of the Motor-ing Library visible in the background.

The other half of the Main Library in mid-reorganisate.  Some more of the Motor-ing Library visible in the background; also CDs on the tall thin shelves and DVDs in the crates.

Shelves at the North End of the Great Hall awaiting repopulation.

Shelves at the South End of the Great Hall awaiting repopulation.  Note tools...

Motor-ing Library reorganisated but before all the "Q" magazines went to the tip.  Note Dust Bunny ov Doom and baby-wipes.

Current state of some of the Main Library.

More of the Main Library, with dead sub-woofer now serving as a coffee table.

The rest of the Main Library.  Those cardboard boxes are to go to the tip last week.

Some Stuffs temporarily moved from the shelf on the right the better to permit Swearing at Co-Ax.

Some Wikinaccurate "research material" which needs to go back upstairs.

The Motor-ing Library.

A small corner of the .CSV file generated by the Bookcrawler app on the fondleslab.  Mildly reformatted to hide a lot of bobbins and put the titles in the same parish as the rest of the interesting Stuffs.  For some reason it thinks Peter Robinson's books don't have pages...

All very neat Jo. Good show. And I admire your diligence Mr Larrers! Excellent stuff. I must organise mine better into Authors.

Another one from me, and there is another set of books behind ALL that you've seen. NEED MORE SPACE … NEED MORE …

Nope. There should be. Do find myself sometimes going through them and saying "Oh there you are!"

I love having a good snout at other peoples' shelves.

When we get invited for dinner I find myself drawn to the bookshelves in the house to see what's there. Whether I can reliably draw any conclusions from what I find I couldn't really say.

Is that being nosey or rude do you think ?

Neither, unless someone is speaking to you and you are giving the bookshelf more attention than the speaker.

Others' books were the great joy of babysitting.

All my books are in a garage at mum's, this is my only case:

The Paradise Lost next to the Frank Fairleigh came from Richard Burton's library I bought at auction twenty years ago. "Water damage" they said.

There are many things in this flat which are a higher priority for tidying up than the bookshelves, and I haven't done any of those either.

Make I commend to the attention of the house the twin attractions of Bookcase and Bookshelf Porn?

I currently suffer from the affliction of too many books for the space availabletoo little shelving for the books I possess and would like to shelve.

GN: we have a room, already designated The Library, which still has two blank walls ideal for the building of more bookcases.
BN: my wife considers that c65m of shelving is already excessive and has imposed a prohibition on said building.
Possible GN: I persist in thinking of this as merely a temporary moratorium.
