Ever tried it?

I never thought I'd say this of any cheese, but brunost is filthy, vile, disgusting stuff.  The Noggies I've met at work swear that the best way to eat it is upside down on an open sandwich so it doesn't stick to the roof of your mouth.

They may have been having me on   ::-)

Ubiquitous in Norway.  Haven't heard of the upside down trick, will enquire tomorrow, they are not prone to winding up type jokes.

I love it.  Toffee cheese, it's wonderful stuff.

Doesn't work on English bread though.

I bought some when I was touring in Norway.  Not a fan.  I think it was binned.

Never tried it, but would like to. Although the photo accompanying that article does make it look unpromisingly processed.

I've been to Norway and given what we were given to eat I'm sure we'll have had some. I have no recollection of it at all.
It is simpler than it looks.

You should try gammelost fra vik (sp?) - tastes like earwax.  I should probably qualify that statement with 'DAHIKT' but I was an inquisitive child.

Brunost is great. It isn't so much cheese as a cheese fudge as it is made with the whey not the curds.

Toffee cheese is a good description.

I had it for breakfast several times on my Norwegian jaunt last year.  I was a bit cack handed with the shaver tool thingy though.  I had to hang around the breakfast buffet observing others to begin with.  Quite nice I thought.  Not exceptionally nice, not horrible.  Nothing to get worked up about IMO.  I had no idea what it was.
