Really?!?  Who are the other Essex Boys?

ACME girls also ride bikes and enter daft cycling events.....me for one. Making a long weekend of it and camping in Boroughbridge which, for me, was way cheaper than the more local option. After the Epiphany Ride I shall be removing my mudguards!!

I'm in. Cross bike now refitted  \/ in Audax-unpopulaire  trim. Just need some fat tyres and a campsite. Any ideas?

Well, I rode it with a Vittoria Randonneur 35 mm on the rear and a Pasela on the front. I don't think you want to go too gnarly, as it's 70% onroad, but everything's a compromise.

Anyone else have any 700c offroady tyre recs?

Schwalbe Marathon Cross isn't bad off-road (particularly the muddy kind of off-road).  It can make things interesting when cornering at speed on tarmac, and I found the puncture-resistance underwhelming for something with a tread pattern designed to capture small pebbles, but that might just be bad luck.

I've got some 700x40c Schwalbe Landcruisers on Fred at the moment and they will be coming to Yorkshire. Got them cheap off Amazon and they don't seem too bad, one puncture so far.

Shwalbe G one have done all I've asked. Lots of road use through bridalways and towpaths to loose chalk & flint river beds tracks in the north downs. Only visitations have been broken glass on the towpath, i have not run them tubeless. I'd be on them for this event except that Mr Bond doesn't have anything similar so we'll be on MTBs.

Am going to be on Clement X'Plor set up tubeless. First go with the airshot clone proved effective and the bead immediately popped tight, but it's weeping sealant. Have left it overnight, and will see whether it held pressure and top up today.

Tried to swap a Schwalbe Marathon 35c from daughters bike to my steel bike (never had >32C Pasela before) just to check, and... no cigar, couldn't even clamp wheel in  (... mudguards are staying put.)
Cycle and recycle.   SS Wilson

Thanks for all the tips. Ordered a pair of these in 35mm https://www.evanscycles.com/kenda-happy-medium-700c-cyclocross-tyre-EV173607
The Clements look the biz but at £100 a pair  :hand:
The Landcruisers are good value and would do the job I reckon (but I wanted folders) http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/schwalbe-land-cruiser-plus-bike-tyre/rp-prod143783
This latest trend in 'Grit Bikes' sort of seems like comedy off-road audax ?

You and I will be using the same tyres.

Ah, excellent, looks like some yacfers I have yet to meet might be on Deano's unpopular ride. I'm not sure whether to wear my yacf or ACME jersey so if you see either please say hello.

I am pretty sure that's the tyre recommended for the 3 Peaks CX which is a mix of tarmac and  (very) rough.

Brilliant! Still not met you, either, OD.

Is there such a thing as an audax after party? If so shall we warn the pub?

I use these on my CX bike

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/vittoria-cross-xl-pro-tyre/rp-prod144360

The blocks line up to give a centre line of tread that rolls surprisingly well on the road, I have a set of Schwalbe Sammy slicks which are very good on the road and dry dirt but offer very little grip on mud.  It should all make for an interesting day, not sure a can get a Carradice on the Cx bike so ill have to travel light

Alas how long I can loiter after the ride will depend on how quick I get round. The Current Mrs R will be waiting for me to drive back to York where we are staying for the weekend.

I kind of want to do this. :o Need to work out whether it's actually possible, though - the logistics probably won't work.

Newby Wiske won't know what's hit it! I'll be there until the last riders on the 300 finish, so you're all welcome to hang around. But I won'the be offended if you have a couple at the Otterington Shorthorn before riding the gruelling half mile to the finish.

Suggest to her that she goes back to York to enjoy herself after seeing you off, and you follow her on the train.  Newby Wiske is less than 5 miles from Northallerton rail station,  which has lots of trains to York.

FYI Transpennine and Grand Central trains will take bikes walk-up, Virgin East Coast need a reservation but you can always make one and then give it to someone else.

Very sadly I can't make this, there's no way I can ride this and fulfill promises previously made, so something has to give.  :(

That's a shame, Si - but tiermat and are I planning to do it as a social ride sometime next month...? Or we can do it later in the year if that's more convenient.

Next month might be tricky, but if you let me know when you're riding I'll see. If not we'll definitely sort something out later in the year.

I'm hoping to ride this on a pair of Schwalbe Racing Ralphs. The size and frame will depend on what I've managed to build by then... There be rims in the shed and a frame currently being laid up.

If that doesn't happen in time, then 700 b 33 in the Spa Audax

Must check Sue's shifts tonight.
