Maple Syrup
« on: 27 June, 2009, 10:21:49 pm »
Daughter 1 usually spends an overly long holiday in the Greek Islands at this time of year and as a reward for doing various jobs i get an ill fitting T shirt and some jars of great thyme honey.

This year she went to Canada and apart from another T shirt destined to shortly clothe the back of an African waif i have a small container of Maple Syrup.

I really don't eat pancackes or ice cream and as these seem to be the main uses for its drizzling existence i wonder if anyone has ever found another use for it.

On Bacon.

Maple Syrup is the stuff of the gods.  My Canadian buddy makes it from trees they have on their land.

In American Diners they pour "maple syrup" on their breakfasts but it is rarely Maple Syrup.  Usually it is a sugar based replica,

Pure maple Syrup is smokey and goes with ham, bacon, eggs as well as ice cream, waffles and so on.

Oh my God, I want a full English with waffles and Maple Syrup now.

Ooh, I nearly bought a pack of easy make gulab jamun while I was hunting and gathering spices in an Asian super market the other day.  The packet contained everything needed but not the syrup.
I wonder if Maple Syrup would do?

Go on, try it.  They're  :P :P :P :P :P
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Nothing worse than hard-to-make Gulab Jamun I find.

What the feck is Gulab Jamun?

And +1 to Lee's suggestion of bacon butties too.  #1 son has introduced me to bacon and plum jam and that's good too.

Maple syrup is also a good addition to plain Greek yoghurt, or even dribbled on porridge.  In fact, I prefer it to honey for such use.  Ham and mushroom pancakes are definitely enhanced by it.

Porridge.  Especially with a dollop of yog and some toasted almonds...
