Unicycle pedals

Largely because of inattention the pedals on EMinor's unicycle came unscrewed.

As well as regularly checking that the pedals are tight in the cranks, does anyone have any ideas for fitting them securely?

As daft as it sounds, make sure that you aren't riding it backwards...
VELOMANCER

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

high strength threadlock; if you spend a lot of time 'hovering',  the precession forces don't work in your favour in the same way as a normal bike

cheers

It's not daft; that's where inattention is relevant. It's difficult to tell at a glance ehich side is which. Therefore, it has been ridden backwards as far as the pedal threads are concerned...

Cheers to you, too. Do you have any suggestions for specific threadlock?

one of the several grades of red Loctite will do the trick I expect.  If you ever want the get the pedals out a little heat will loosen them.  However if the pedal threads are already damaged, it mightn't work now whatever you do.

Thank you. I'll see what I can do: unicycles are depressingly expensive!

Good news! The thread on one crank was damaged justenough to prevent the pedal thread starting to engage. It has now been re- threaded.

Next stop,  red Loctite!

probably when the pedal came out, it took the last thread out with it. Hopefully the remaining threads will be enough, in combination with the threadlocking compound.

cheers
