I'm glad you posted this - until now, I didnt know what article was being discussed, so much of this thread made little sense!
I have to agree that the journalists were probably struggling for a sufficiently sensational angle - the cyclists hadn't done anything obviously wrong, or run anyone over, or harmed house prices. So they made some shit up
