Title: TC Down (but not out)
Post by: tonycollinet on 17 January, 2019, 06:10:49 pm
Strictly speaking not on the road, as I'd just left the road onto the path to the park.

Saw a patch of ice "oh dear I'm coming off" about a millisecond before hitting the deck like a sack of spuds.

It hurt. Fortunately nothing broken except my front dynamo light. Though during the red alert phase (before more reasoned damage reports came in) I thought I might have broken a hip. Which would have been bad.

Now hobbling round with hip and groin pain. Will be on the trike tomorrow.

Good news! No broken hip, and you have a trike!

I had a brief loss of traction (but kept it rubber-side-down, simply because I was moving fast enough to get to dry tarmac before going down) on a shared-use pavement earlier.  Didn't think it was cold enough for studs, but I hadn't accounted for the effect of shady building site hoardings combined with lack of gritting on the pavement.

GWS!

Yes, I have. Why the hell wasn't I on it. Today is precisely why I bought it.

Conversation in the changing rooms this morning.

Cold wasn't it.
Yes.
Were you on two or three wheels
Two
I'd have thought you'd be on three in this weather.
There wasn't any ice on my route.
Hmm

Mishap was when I went home at lunchtime. I suspect much of the water I saw this morning in the dark was in fact black ice. It certainly was on the way back.

I'm now going into closing the stable door mode.

Mend well and fast!

Seek attention if you still have groin pain tomorrow, especially if that's worse when someone tries to roll your knee inwards when you're lying flat.

ulp

Why? What might that be.

EDIT

OK - just looked it up. Don't think the pain is bad enough for a fracture - feels more like a pulled muscle. I can stand on one leg (the damaged one :-) ) without much discomfort.

Frankie Howard:  Doctor, it hurts when I do that. (demonstrates)
Doctor: Well, don't do that!

True hip pain is more often felt in the groin.
You probably did not land on your groin and I'm not worried about bruising to the buttocks,

Several yacf members have suffered significant bony damage in the hip region following an 'off', not all of which have been promptly diagnosed.

I am BORING, risk-averse and cautious...

No you're not.  Your advice is always appreciated.

CWS, TC.

Keep up your particular brand of boring & cautious, Helly!

Agreed Helly - caution and warning always appreciated.

I'll monitor the groin pain, and if it's not gone in a day or so will check with Dr.

Feeling much better already this morning - and unexpectedly was able to sleep on normal (damaged) side.

Lovely to read you've been able to sleep!

Pain is worse when you're tired so sleep can be a great healer.

Wishing you a good weekend and beyond!

@TC: (1) Ouch. (2) GWS.

@Helly: you're a godsend!
