Ooh - must have a look for some round here. That's quite a bit earlier than last year, I think.

Just went outside to put something in the bin and could hear all the lambs and ewes calling to each other from a nearby field. :)

That's rather good! I haven't seen an adder for years. Whereabouts was he?

He/she was up on the north-western flank of Cleeve Hill, overlooking Winchcombe.  Certainly the largest adder I've seen, and the most camera-friendly one as well.

Lovely pics Paul.  What a handsome adder.

That's a magnificent reptile & nice pics. I haven't seen an adder for five & a half decades. I'm not sure if there are any left in Warwickshire.

Cleeve Hill holds a lot of personal memories...

Cleeve Hill holds a lot of personal memories...

Likewise - I grew up at its foot, and used to ride over to Winchcombe to visit grandparents, it was our sledging place, treasure hunt place, kite-flying place, mushroom-gathering place, walking with girlfriend place etc.

Saw my first house martin or possibly a swallow (it shot past too quick to be sure) of the year today.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Mrs. Wow and I took our grandson for a stroll along the very derelict Thames & Medway Canal, to which I was introduced a year or so ago by Mr. Legg-Bandage, on an especially wonderful ride to Whitstable. Last year there were marsh frogs, a nightingale, a cuckoo and some skylarks. This year there were several reed warblers. They have an especially comic song. You could almost imagine them playing a ukulele.

At the moment I am having two duets as I go to and leave work. On the Sussex side, there are two blackcaps singing at each other. On the Surrey side, two chiffchaffs.

Snowdrops in flower. Today. Priory Park. IIRC that beats last year's record by 30 days.

IDNRC. 20 days. Last year, itself a record so far as I am concerned, was on 17th November.

There are now 7 snowdrops in flower and loads of shoots appearing. By this time next week it will be February so far as they are concerned.

Yesterday, whilst out on my round in Kenilworth, I heard a bumble bee buzzing and saw a butterfly flitting in the space of less than five minutes. It was very sunny at the time, but still...

Well there we go.  Down here we have snowdrops out, some, but by no means all, daffodils out,  sweet ickle baa-yams in the field next door and now very noticibly lengthening days.
But of course we are still waiting for the one true sign of spring.  Teethgrinder banging out consecutive >250 mile days.

Convinced I heard skylarks singing when I riding out near Brawdy airfield on Friday, or it may have been random harmonics set up by the wind vibrating my earwax.
