Author Topic: Saturday Night Ride Round Shropshire July 20th. From Wolverhampton.  (Read 680 times)

For the last couple of years I've organised a bit of a bike ride for a couple of my cycling friends and I. It mainly involves doing things that we like i.e. Riding a reasonable distance, night riding, drinking beer and sitting around talking.

After enjoying the company of so many YACF members on Kims' Rollright ride, I wondered if some of you might care to join us?

The route is a leisurely 103 miles of mainly quiet Shropshire roads. Starting at 4.00p.m. from the Western side of Wolverhampton. I wanted to include on the route some stopping points where we could find food and drink and also where we could rest and just chat.

Roughly, the route is:

Wolverhampton to Bridgenorth via quiet lanes. This includes the only tough hill on the route. The climb out of the Severn Valley.

Along the Corvedale to stop for beer at http://home.btconnect.com/thesuninncorfton/ . Around threequarters of an hour or two pints rest.(About 26 miles)

Onwards to Craven Arms and the local Fish and Chip shop.( About 33 miles)

Next stop is http://www.bigreddirectory.com/horse-and-jockey-church-stoke-montogomery-powys for a beer or two and another rest stop. Plan to leave there at around 11.00 p.m. (About 53 miles)

Then on to http://www.transportcafe.co.uk/dinkys_dinah_diner_shrewsbury_welshpool_a458.html an all night transport cafe where Coffee and bacon butties will be consumed. (About 70 miles) Plan to leave there at about 1.30 a.m.

Shrewsbury-Telford- Shifnal on almost deserted roads with the ocasional rest stop. Then a lanesy route back to the start location on the Western edge of Wolverhampton. It should be fully daylight at this point.(5.00 a.m. approximately)

So...it's 103 miles in about 13 hours. At least 3 and a half hours sitting around chatting time. Beer-Chips-More Beer- Bacon Butties.
What's not to like?

If anyone would like a GPX file of the route please P.M. me your e-mail and I will send it to you.

The exact start point is a country crossroads with no facilities at all. Wolverhampton Station is 5 miles away and the nearest Pub/ Cafe/ Shops/ Car Parking are 1 mile away from the start.

So.....anyone fancy it?

I don't want to grow old gracefully. I want to grow old disgracefully.

Alas I've already committed to riding the Two Battles group perm with fungus and co out of Tamworth that day.  It's also the weekend of the Dunwich Dynamo...
