Zeeland 600 on the May Bank Holiday and the 6-9-6 are of interest.   I've not got anything properly planned for next year yet.

6-9-6 sounds like a fun tour.

The 6-9-6 sounds like a fun tour indeed (planning to ride it myself). I hope we can provide more information soon, but expect a relatively x-rated audax (with at most one support point along the way).

I’ve entered something else in the Summer but have left the second week of Sep empty on the family planner.

This is of interest - https://www.randonneurs.nl/brevet/brm-600-zeeland-2024/.

I can ride to Harwich Thursday evening, have an enjoyable ride to Zeeland on Friday, do the event and then meander home Bank Holiday Monday.

If you're ok with the slightly longer distance. Riding there from Home, follow the delta works flood defences down the west side rather than a more inline route. It's an impressive setup.

Yeah, I've ridden that bit a couple of times.   We also had a family holiday at the Center Parcs along there.   It's one of my favourite stretches.

I was caught out by the Maasluis ferry disappearing but it seems to have been replaced with a bikes only service.

I'm one of the organisers of the 6-9-6, I'll open a seperate topic once we have the info text ready (in English).

Don't expect a lot of AAA points on this route, especially the last leg. We'll organise a 1200 and a 2100, starting together. The 1200 will turn back home a bit earlier as the 2100.

From the Ijmuiden ferry, which of those 2/300s is the easiest to get to via bike?

The Amsterdam 200 on March 16th is tempting, I'm (likely) visiting that weekend to watch AHBC/Pinoke games, but could be tempted to bring a bike.

IJmuiden ferry to the start of the Amsterdam events is about 40km by bike. But there are stations close to the ferry that you can use to get to Amsterdam quicker.

Quickly plugging information into Google Maps, rough distance (km) by bike from the Ijmuiden ferry. Most pretty doable tbh. Hmm.

In case it wasn't already obvious. The organiser of the Amsterdam events is me. The 200's and 400 are my routes. The 600 is inherited from Ernst.

Funny. I'm usually doing this in the reverse direction (looking for rides close to Newcastle).

I think all of them are doable from IJmuiden. It's less than 30km by bike to the Schiphol Airport train station from where you have direct and fast trains to almost anywhere in the country: for instance Zwolle is just over one hour, Groningen two hours exactly. For some destination, such as Maastricht or Heerlen, Amsterdam Centraal (also less than 30km) may be a better option. If you're lazy, there is also a train station close to IJmuiden, Driehuis, but then the first part to Amsterdam Centraal is on a slow train.

When are you planning on putting any extra information up? For hotel booking reasons.

Valkenswaard is 170+km from IJmuiden, not 84km (and it's 11km from the nearest train station, Eindhoven).

And it is faster to cycle 7km from Utrecht central station to the start in Bunnik (the Stayok hostel) than to switch trains to Bunnik and cycle 2km from Bunnik station.

@Julia  where will your brevets start from, Steigereiland like before?

Don't know how I've done that, I got it correct for the 300.

Stop trying to make me use trains people, it's less fun. (But if I did, I can just jump on with a bike?)

If you have the time to spare it's certainly nice to cycle to the start.

For taking your bike on a train you need a separate ticket for your bicycle; it's valid for an entire day; otherwise no need for reservations, it's a first-come-first-served scheme. everything you always wanted to know about bicycles on Dutch trains

Thanks!

The ferry is kind of annoying in that it doesn't get in until 0945. But on the plus side, that gives all day to ride to wherever. Same on the return, it leaves in the evening.

When are you planning on putting any extra information up? For hotel booking reasons.

So for the 200 and 400, the exact start and finish is to be confirmed (waiting to see if our usual cafe has reopened after it got burned down). But the will start from the same sort of area as before. For planning purposes. Assume within a km or 2 of here. https://maps.app.goo.gl/LXvEuFpDn1BUZoUM6

We have to start from that side of the city else you spend the first 10k and the last 10k swearing at traffic lights.

For the 600 I'm looking into the possibility of a start somewhere on the west side of the city, (Sloterdijk area) largely for my own logistics and with the route there's a lot more options for heading out to the north from the west.

@Julia  where will your brevets start from, Steigereiland like before?

Probably. At least for the 200 and 400.

[(But if I did, I can just jump on with a bike?)

If you want to buy a ticket for your bike. It's best done so via the NS app, else you'll pay a premium for them to print the ticket.

For the rest of the travel, just check in and check out with your contactless pay card. No need to check in (or out) with the bike card. You can also buy tickets for you as a human via the NS app as well.

Trains in .NL work incredibly well. And train plus bike is a great way of seeing the country. Esp when the wind is in the wrong direction.

Also of note: the two Heerlen 200's are hilly. *Really hilly*. The Mariawald route is 2500m of climbing. Do not assume that just cos it's the Netherlands, that its flat. The Mariawald route is out side NL for about 190km of it's length. When I did that in 2019, I finished with 4 minutes in hand. The hardest audax I've ever done.

For my own routes I can confirm that for the March 200, and the May 400, I have gone out of my way to include at least one hill. Do let me know if you notice it :p
