I'd like a threesome with Konnie Huq and Julia Sawalha, but, like the above post, it ain't gonna happen.
What incentive is there to provide space for bikes, when there are too many foot-passengers wanting to travel? The bike area on class 156 trains can take 4 bikes at a pinch, and is the same size as 8 seats. So each bike takes up 2 seats that could have fare-paying bums on. If the train is full (and it's a big 'if') bikes just get in the way, slowing down the loading and unloading.
It's a trade-off; does provision of bike space generate revenue by creating cyclists' journeys that they wouldn't otherwise make? Or does it take space away from seated and wheel-less passengers?
Discuss.
