GO STEVE
....after the `tarte de pommes`, and  fortified by a couple of shots of limoncellos,  I flew up the Col de Bavella whilst thunderstorms rolled around the peaks above

Yesterday's ride is not on Stava yet. Was there an issue with the upload. Today's track starts in the middle of nowhere so I wonder if Steve just napped by the road and started when he woke? Wonder what the rules are about when the track has to be loaded?

I see that today's track started in Saffron Walden, is that the Middle of Nowhere?  Could be that a Host lives in that area?

It's incredible what Steve is managing to do, so soon after the accident.

He is back in Manningtree and it is before 1200 so I am guessing that that is his PBP 400k qualifier completed.  :)

Today's track will have started somewhere random because Steve was still in the middle of the 400 at the time - a 9:00 a.m. departure on the 9th mean a finish somewhere in the region of 9:00 - 12:00 on the 10th.  where the trackleaders track starts is just a function of where he happened to be when they cut over and defined a new day.
You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

I noticed sometime around midday that Steve was heading toward Bures on his return from the A&S, so I thought I might head down there and give him a cheer. He was probably only 3 miles from Bures when I checked, and I live 3.7 miles away, so it was going to be tight! I TT'd it over the Lamarsh Lumps down to Bures, checked my phone - not enough signal to reload the tracking page. I wondered if he might have stopped at one of the Bures pubs for a spot of lunch, so I wasted a few minutes checking. No sign, so I headed off toward White Colne, guessing he'd go that way rather than Pebmarsh. I was wrong, as it turned out, and after another 30 minutes' riding fruitlessly searching (and getting mixed up with the Halstead Marathon), I packed in and went home. Never mind, I'll do it here:

Go Steve!!

I see Steve has just cycled up the hill into Cranfield. I hate that hill at the best of times, never mind at this time of night.

I see the device on Steves two uploaded rides this weekend is 'Mobile' instead of the normal Garmin 500 or 1000

Does that mean he had probems with the Garmins?

Strava unhelpfully refers to tracks produced by an eTrex (or presumably any other GPX source it doesn't recognise) as 'Mobile'.  IIRC Steve has an eTrex 30, so I expect they came from that.

Early days I know, but one man's determination in the face of adversity is the stuff of movies. This is developing into an incredible story. Keep going Steve!

I should have had another pannier on my mobile organiser's office for bunting, balloons and fireworks. A marching band and cheerleaders would have been appropriate too.

Agreed. Quite incredible effort by Steve over the last few days. It really does feel that he may get back on schedule to take the record. How does he do it? Amazing!
