Laughed all the way through it - the description of the windy bit is priceless, nice one!

And here is mine: https://duracellbunnyonabike.com/2017/08/13/lel-sign-me-up-for-2021/

I love this write up! I heard you took time to chat to us mortals at Controls... How did you find time! I think you were arriving at Barney southbound when I was leaving northbound. Thank you for this.

Noice.  But I'll point out that there was in fact an identical milk machine(albeit minus the multi-lingual signage) at the Other Shool, where you were a volunteer, 4 years ago.  I remember Catherine the lovely school cook teaching me how to put a new unwieldy milk cuboid into it, including the instruction "then you chop off the willy" - altho we did run out of said unwieldy cuboids and used 6 pinters after that.

Quadrophenia would have been a good blog title. #FacesOfLEL...

However, I don't remember any of that. Totally made up. Especially the bits you didn't include. Fabrication the lot of it. I really must wash that Sudocrem out of my shorts before my next ride - you said I couldn't draft a recumbent.

Thank goodness we didn't have to call the police on the road to Alston.

Here's my write up of LEL 2017 - http://www.buttonsofmymind.co.uk/lel-2017/

That's a great story - I was willing you to finish all the way from Edinburgh!

Miff was mainly on tea duties! I was far more knackered volunteering than I was riding so the Other School is a blur.

Outstanding read! You're a fan of Wodehouse and MacDonald Fraser, I'll warrant.

Come on Deano, The Old Priest House in Audlem is on it, so you can tick that box  ;D

Some cracking reads, thanks all.

I'm really enjoying everyone's tales - thank you!

Dean, I especially liked your roll call of performers not met on the ride.  Big bonus from me for getting Lou Rawls and Joe Tex together!  you missed Gary Gill (more of that later - it's the eyes).

Hi all

My report is now up: Fear and Louthing (boom boom!)

https://audaxery.wordpress.com/2017/08/14/fear-and-louthing-lel-2017/

I've had an interesting time writing it - there's a fine line between honesty and bad-mouthing, I hope I am on the right side of the equation. As you know we all get tetchy when sleep deprived and I hope I have managed to communicate that any issues with partners were mine as much as anyone else's.

I have, ahem, borrowed photos as I didn't take a camera. Photos from Jibberjaber, Ivo and Barry Covington feature heavily. Credits are there but if you want me to pull them no worries.

Gosh that was a hard ride. #understatement
Yes - you almost made me glad to be volunteering!

A good read. It was a refereshing change to read about the Dark Side of things; I recognised several situations/issues from long rides that I've done. I thought you handled it well

Surprised Edmund Byers didn't make an appearance. Sheep farmer with hairy twine round his trouser legs to stop the rats getting in.

Gary Gill got a mention (he's the weather man on Look East), but since Graeme didn't get as far as Edmundbyers, he had to settle for Stan Hope...

Really nice writing and account - I thoroughly enjoyed reading that, and also Chris' account previously!
I was on the 05:00 start as well, and had planned on riding up from SE London; awakening to the 'monsoon' I was ready to order a cab. And glad I didn't, as that would explain the stationary traffic on Tower Bridge! But at the last moment, it eased a bit, and I set off 03:30 and arrived a bit soggy in Loughton with just 18min to spare.

The Howardian Hills are North of Pocklington, and the significant climbing in them is West of Hovingam, unless you avoid them entirely.
