OK, here's one on a roof nearby.

It is simpler than it looks.

Ooh missus! Nisus accipiter!

Great picture, mate. I believe it is neither a Swainson's nor an osprey...

I also believe it's not that old. Guessing from proportions and colouring, it is an older juvenile that has lost the fringes to its mantle feathers, and it may actually be a male juvenile from the proportions. Head and feet look a bit lightweight. Mantle colour /breast colour are  female, but juveniles are that colour as well (just scaley). Will have a closer look when home.

Tricky: Either juv male or female and taking into account that the confusions of the moult (May-Oct) it's anyone's guess. Females bigger but impossible to tell from picture. Legs look normal sized to me.

Nice shot. Fierce look no?

I always think females look a little heavier in the rip'n'tear toolkit areas.

J, what they're failing to say is "sparrowhawk"!  (Not everyone speaks "twitch".)

Yes, Ben.  There's not much difference between the sexes (I don't think) so it may be a trick of the light, or the back one may be a juvenile.  For added cuteness, see:-

Yup, subadult and adult GCG. The chicks are wonderful--look like mint humbugs and ride on parent's back.
