I'm impressed (and slightly mystified!) by the lack of twist in that rack when it's loaded.

Well...

I was getting a little bounce/shake on the rear of the rack, so I decided to do something to sort it.

The support at the rear used a bit of aluminium angle bolted to a bit of stainless plate that was from the original setup. There was some flex in the stainless plate.

I decided to replace the 2 components with a single one made from stainless (bent) angle:

Here is thwe old bit, and the new bit partially cut to shape from a length of the stainless angle (scavenged from old commercial kitchen table)

And here it is fitted. It's stiffened it up nicely.

I also fitted an inline adjuster for the gears.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

Just started something this evening.

These are the bits for the first part:

Holes drilled for the socket...

...and the lead.

Leads soldered and heat shrink covered...

...and the case assembled.

So - what's it for?
(Hopefully, I will be showing the answer tomorrow  ;))

I'm guessing some sort of regulator.

Photosensor?  Automagic darkness lighting rig??
I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

A colleague keeps telling me that the Windcheetah needs to be more visable  >:(, so this is a project to piss him off...

Despite cleaning the Wincheetah seat with white spirit, and meths, and heating it...

The self-adhesive LED lighting strip didn't stick as well as I hoped.  :-\

I had to use a few bits of all-weather clear adhesive tape over it.  >:(

The LED strip plugs into the box I made yesterday, and a rechargeable lithium battery pack connects to the lead. They can sit in the mesh top of the rack bag.

This gives the Windcheetah LED Lighting all around the seat.  :D

Not only that, the box I made up yesterday gives me remote control, with on/off, brightness...

... 8 flashing modes and control of the speed of each of the modes!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

https://youtu.be/Xmv5qJoXBvM  :smug:

There is also enough LED strip to go round the mudguard of a few of the other bikes.   :D :D :D

LED strip lights - £3.98, Remote module - £2.39,  ;)
Box & socket left over from other projects, leads & plugs from scrap 'wall-wart' transformers.

If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

VELOMANCER

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

That's fantastic.  Is there a Howto for this? I'd love to put it on the back of my seat tube!

I can make it dimmer with the remote. :demon:

You mean that ^ isn't enough?

The LED strip is this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-4ft-Waterproof-Flexible-12V-Led-Strip-Lights-3528-SMD-Red-300-LEDs-5M-Roll-UK/173420747544?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

You can cut it at 3 LED intervals. If you scrape the waterproof plastic off, you can solder more leads on and do several shorter lengths. alternatively you can buy short lengths.
It will run on the 7V ish lithium batteries that are used for the CREE U2 lights that I have , or you could just use a  9V PP3 battery and connector.

The remote I used is an RF one so that the reciever can be hidden away (some are IR, and need 'line of sight'), you can get them with the plug & socket attached, but they are the wrong gender plug/socket if you are using the lithium batteries. I used one like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-12V-RF-Remote-Switch-Controller-Dimmer-for-Mini-LED-Strip-Light-Panel-Wifi-FT/123147925759?epid=17007758852&hash=item1cac3038ff:g:6LEAAOSwe25bBDOA:rk:11:pf:0

The only reason I added the plug & socket, is because I might want to swap it to other projects...

I was just thinking that. What would have been the excuse two weeks ago if I was lit up like that

Way back on page 4 of this thread, I posted about doing ukelele kits for the Year 5 students, at work, to make. (Photobucket have robbed the pictures again, incase you were going back to look).

We're still doing the project, but this year, we will offer to allow some students to add my latest idea.  :D

The parts needed are these:

... that's a Piezo sounder, a 1/4" jack socket, and a lasercut (from offcuts of perspex) mounting plate for the jack socket...

Drilling a 20mm hole in the uke, allows it to be installed - the sounder can be stuck inside the front (with a bit of double sided tape) by shoving a finger through the sound-hole.

The Piezo sounder works as a contact microphone, so by plugging it into a practice guitar amp...

...we have an ELECTRIC ukelele!  :demon:

Last weekend we collected a donor vehicle for a new project...

It used to be a 'quad bike', but all that remains is a damaged frame and wheels.

Good job that's all we need for the basis to build from.  :smug:

So...

...what's it gonna be?  :demon:

This is going to be a work based project - I have half a dozen, very inexperienced students working with me on this construction.

Much of the front section of the frame has been stripped down:

It's had a bash at the front, and one of the upper wishbones is out of shape:

Other problems are:
Rear wheels are loose on their splines, and the nuts that hold them are bottomed out.
The hydraulics for the disc brakes are not working - maybe refilling and bleeding will work.  :-\ If not it looks like I can swap in pushbike calipers easily  :D

We cut the middle section out of the frame, as we want to stretch the vehicle - well... we cut it in 3 places and then we found the last tube was cracked right through!  :o

This may give you a hint as to what we are building...

If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...
