peter hebblethwaite of P&O ferries talking about the sacking of the staff today in front of a Commons committee
I was about to say that!
Quote
P&O Ferries boss Peter Hebblethwaite has admitted to MPs that a decision to sack 800 workers last week without consulting the unions broke the law.

I have a wild idea – what if we had some kind of sanction that we could apply to people who knowingly break the law? I'd model it on something like school detentions. We'd obviously need some people to enforce it and we'd probably have to write down the rules to stop people wriggling around them, but I think it's doable.

A quick scan of the ferry accounts and the strategic report for 2020  indicates large pension liabilities, and a significant operating profit in 2020 following accounting losses in 2019. A 50% margin doesn't sound too shabby.

That sounds like a neat idea. Run is past someone in charge, such as the Prime Minister, to see what they say.

I perceive a problem might arise with enforcement.  The problem would be who appoints the enforcers and how independent the enforcers actually are.  If the enforcers are paid from the public purse then there is a real risk of undue influence applied by those in "power" with control of the public purse and the ability to appoint at any given time.  If they are private sector enforcers then it's pure Russian roulette ...

I was going to nominate Viktor Orban but then I thought no, it's the 53% who voted for him who should be nominated.  Then I thought shit, that's horrifically close numbers to the berxshit referendum.

Now I find myself nominating all nationalist/fascist pricks everywhere.

It's as if the past 90 years never happened ...

She's been ranting on her "authentic" YouTube channel about Zelezny at the Grammies.  I managed to avoid clicking on it but the text on preview was enough to make me vomit.

Apparently he's "the son of Irish Immigrants", whatever that is meant to imply.  He's also a Brexiter who's got an Irish passport, who recently characterised Yorkshire thus 'transformed into a county of leftist whingers begging for handouts' .  He should have a season ticket here.

December 2013: Ukraine is right to sign an FTA with the EU rather than joining a customs union with Russia; FTAs, unlike customs unions, are non-exclusive.

April 2022: Delighted that we're scrapping all tariffs and quotas for Ukraine. Thanks, [Boris Johnson], [Liz Truss] and [Anne-Marie Trevelyan]. We're able to do it because we're outside the EU. It would be nice if Brussels followed suit.

Ten house points if you recognise the author of both sentiments as former MEP and perpetual Super-Twat Daniel “Lord” Hanna.

He is a prize super-twat. I had to deal with him a lot when he was Johnson's sidekick at City hall and was the main mouthpiece for his crazy Estuary Airport idea, as well as having the day-to-day oversight of Transport for London. He seems to have moved even further to the right and become more ludicrous since collecting his reward for loyal servitude.

Seems Mr [“Rhyming Slang”– Ed.] has retracted his statement.  This may actually have the Streisand Effect, viz. making him appear even more of an S-T than was previously the case.

Edit: while looking for a summary of Mr [“Rhyming Slang”– Ed.]'s S-T behaviour, I noted with alarm that Nadine Dorries is “trending”.  From which I deduce we can expect news of a further piece of egregious boneheadedness from Mad Nad shortly.

MadNad's most recent Twitter claim included the words 'food doesn't grow on trees.'

Except it didn't, as it was fake, but let's face it, it would have been one of her more reasoned recent comments.
