David's Subtle Suffolk Shuffle
« on: 05 August, 2010, 03:02:16 pm »
My partner, David Arditti, is leading a small group of cyclists (six hopefully, accommodation is booked) around some parts of Essex and Suffolk over the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend (28-30 August).
Some of those who showed initial interest have dropped out and there are now two vacancies (one male, one female).

------------------

The ride will start on Saturday 28 August by getting the 10:38 from Liverpool Street and getting off at Marks Tey at 11:29. The return will be on Monday 30 August from Marks Tey on the 19:39 to Liverpool Street, arrives 20:33.  Cost of rail tickets £17.45 with a Network railcard.

The individual days' itineraries are:
Saturday 44 miles from Marks Tey to Kettleburgh, near Framligham, Suffolk, via Lavenham,  Stowmarket and Debenham. Supping and staying on Saturday night at The Chequers, Kettleborough, Suffolk, IP13 7JT. We will be sharing two per room here. This is a pub, but the accommodation is at the end of the garden, by the River Deben, and should be very quiet. Price of B&B £33.25.
Sunday 35 miles from Kettleburgh to Framlingham, Orford, and then down the coast roughly following the Suffolk coastal Cycle. We use the Butley Ferry, the Bawdsey Ferry, and the Felixstowe-Harwich ferry to get get to the Sunday nights' stay, which is at Farm Cottage, Tinker Street, Ramsey, near Harwich, Essex CO12 5LS. I have booked a room with 4 beds into and one with 2 beds. We will have supper here as well. Price of B&B £17.50 or £20.
Monday 30 miles from Ramsey via Dedham, Stratford St Mary, Stoke by Nayland and Nayland to Marks Tey. This route is along the Stour valley taking in scenes and places famous for being painted by Constable. We may also see one of his paintings.

The route is on OS Landrangers 155, 156, 168, and 169 (annoyingly in the corner between 3 of them on the Monday). The route map for the Sustrans Fakenham to Harwich cycle route is also relevant as it corresponds to much of what we will do on the Sunday.

Looks like a well-planned weekend
