It's snowing!

I've just been out sledging.   

No photos today, although the light at dusk was spectacular!

there was a thin layer of ice all along the Embankment

Crikey, whereabouts? It was clear when I was on it this morning, from Albert Bridge all the way to Embankment tube at about 8.30. Either that or I was blissfully unaware 

If you'd gone a little further along, by temple station was a big pile of ice in the road. Not all of it was due to nature though - it looked like the staff at the Walkabout club had just tipped all their surplus ice cubes into the road (quite a lot of them!).

I'm not sure what they expected to happen to them - perhaps they're Ozzies and have no previous experience of what happens to water at these temperatures.

Another 10 bob sledge runs, including some advanced stuff like a 3' wide path between the trees, where you can't really see where you're going in the dark and there is a big drop off to the left.  Fab.

Surprisingly, quite a bit of the Cumbrian coast, the Mull of Kintyre and the Stranraer peninsula have no snow.

The typical weather in Stranraer, from where Mrs eck hails, is wet 'n' windy.
But, surprisingly, they had more snow than we had, up here between Dundee and Aberdeen, just before Christmas.

I was waiting to give blood yesterday and the telly was on in the waiting room, on BBC News channel. The scrolling headlines said "Breaking News: UK in grip of big freeze."

We've had varying depths of snow here for nearly a month. I don't think it's breaking news anymore.
