OK, the Official January WARTY Ride is to celebrate Annie's birthday, which is on Friday. We are going out Saturday 10th Jan here. ...

Since Wowbaggers map is a bit chunky, and doesn't work ideally with my Active-10 GPS (which will just overlay the GPX onto the OS mapping), I took his map, re-input it into Bike Route Toaster using the Auto-Route following bit, then output it and simplified it using GPS Babel.

This map follows the route a bit closer, but has 300 data points.  This is OK for the Active-10, but may be a bit much for other GPS's, unless you want to follow the route more exactly, and don't just need junction information (which Wows provides adequately).

I think I've gone on the correct roads, but occasionally I've had to make an executive decision and pick one road over another, but I doubt it matters much.  The total distance using this, which follows the route a bit more closely is a smidgen under 50 miles.
Actually, it is rocket science.

How wonderful that so many people are now coming along for this ride, it will also be Jane's birthday, so a double celebration.

Cometworm?
TG?
Tim Hall?
Still not certain yet.
I still have the cough, but am rarely bringing anything up with it now. I'm also worried about the ice. I won't ride there if the roads are icy.
I'll need to be fighting fit to get to the start.

Actually, Annie, it's not my birthday- i seem to recall a post from Polar Bear (possibly) on the thread where you first mentioned this ride- he (or she) posted just before a post of mine and said it was his (or her) birthday- I think you may have got a wee bit confused. (If you weren't you probably are now)  I am a summer baby (August 26th).

So just supposing a bloke was going to go on this and was going by train, how long should it take to skedaddle from London Bridge to Liverpool Street? By bike that is?

I've made plans to go and visit my mate in Coggeshall after the ride. If anyone is driving to Marks Tey, would I be able to leave a small backpack with a change of clothes in the boot? I wouldn't really fancy riding around all day with it on my back.

After my deliberating, I'll probably get on a train from Chelmsford now. ::-)

My car will be there so feel free to leave anything you like.

Sorry for the confusion Jane, brain isn't what it used to be.  I was convinced it was your birthday as well.

Sorry you haven't been too well TG.

Just returned from yoga, -9 out there, very slippery, lost it on a roundabout.

It's Polar Bear's birthday on the 11th Jan. I also believe it may be RichForrest's daughter's birthday too.

I reckon it wouldn't be too taxing to aim to come once in a year.

Is the prize a fragrant buff?  ;D

It might be, it might not.  Not sure if Wow has any buffs. ???

As for bikinis, let's put that idea on to the back-burner shall we?

Eugh - Santa in a bikini - that conjures up all sorts of disturbing thoughts.

12 months of WARTY smut & innuendo would be too much for me to manage, but I'll have to see about this weekend.   Is there any snow around that way?

At the moment, looking out the window (2 miles outside of Halstead) it looks grim. Off the larger roads the lanes are still littered with stretches of frozen ice/snow. The forecast for tomorrow shows light winds and sunny spells and I had been planning to get my January DIY 200k done to keep my RTTY going, but unless there's a marked warming and disappearance of the dodgy stuff, I'll not be venturing out; I've already hit the deck on black ice once this winter and I don't wish to repeat the process!
Fingers crossed for Saturday as the same reasoning applies; weather 'tween now and then needs to warm enough to clear the lanes a bit.

Agreed, PP. The forecast is for it to be warmer - but since weather as cold as the last few days doesn't happen more often than once every few years, we'd expect that really.

Don't worry Adam - I don't wear bikinis... ;)

Yippee - looks like Sue and I are on for Saturday: Sue was particularly impressed with the civilized elevenses and other rest stops advertised.

Don't underestimate the power of the yacf ladies; on the Norfolk weekend we had Jasper wearing my skirt...  ;D

Bright sunshine forecast for Saturday at the moment.

I think I'll train it, so can I meet up with you ladies at (iirc) 8-15 on the concourse at Liverpool Street?

Don't expect me to wear any sort of female apparel. ;D

If the YACF Ladies request that I wear a bikini, then so be it. However, I must stipulate that this must be on a summer WARTY and preferably on a beach.

Oh no! Think of the little children making their sand castles suddenly seeing Santa in his Sunday clothes!   :o  :'(
Ladies, of the Yacf variety, I could postpone my face shaving for a while and organise a Beard ride.  ::-)

I'll be there, most likely arriving by train. Let's hope there's lots of space on it.
