There's finally enough greenery on the fuschia to enable to me to see how much of the winter-induced dead bits I can prune back.

It looks a bit sparse now, but give a couple of months...

I heard a cuckoo this morning. It was on Two Tree Island and I was the other side of the creek, walking towards Leigh station. I also saw my first swallow.

When we were in Scotland, between Glenelg & Corran, I'm pretty sure I saw a house martin, but it was fleeting. That was on 5th April.

There were lots of willow warblers in Scotland. Whist we were riding along the Road from the Isles, we could hear them almost all the way. Given that willow warblers and chiffchaffs are physically so similar, I wonder why one species seems to favour the far north and the other the south? We do get the occasional willow warbler round here, but they were nothing like so common as chiffchaffs. We didn't hear one chiffchaff in Scotland.

In Dumfries early the week before last there were good numbers of swallows and house martins over the river.

Our Greater Spotted Woodpecker no longer visits the bird feeder (A sure sign that winter is over) and now occasionally can be heard drumming stage garden left.

I heard a cuckoo this morning.

And the first one for me this year.  Clear as a bell ringing out over the upper Clydach valley.

... which would explain the fat tabby cat halfway up a tree with a chicffchaff in it on my way to work the other morning  ;)

This little chap in our garden. He was next to our beech hedge and wasn't too pleased about having his photo taken. His mum was even less pleased and gave me a good scolding from atop the hedge.

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

A fly as high as a kite on pollen trapped in the head of a dandelion. It seemed to want to get out, but every attempt to escape would result in it falling drunkenly back in.

It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Our wintertime view of the taller towers of Warwick Castle is rapidly disappearing now the tall trees are coming into leaf. Farewell, till the autumnal leaf fall at least.

Heard first cuckoo today. Down on the Kemsley marshes.
There's no vibrations, but wait.

The cherry blossoms have been out in west London for a week or a bit. Should think that the frost would delay it a bit.
