A3 Cycle Path - Butser - open
« on: 19 December, 2016, 09:42:36 pm »
As a regular traveller down to the Havant/Chichester area from Basingstoke I've been watching the progressive building of the cycle path by the A3 between Petersfield and Horndean.  Last time I went it looked like they had finally closed the gap at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park so decided to give it a go last night en route from the caravan at Selsey where the family have already started Christmas back home as did not want to travel by Southern Railway (that in itself is a comment on customer service that people will ride nearly 60 miles on a cold December night to avoid using your trains....

Anyway, pleased to report that the route is open, all tarmac and suitable for road bikes although the signposting is a bit idiosyncratic - so it opens up a new route through the South Downs for those interested in planning routes, or even Audaxes.  There are a couple of sections where it runs by the main road, but the bit where it goes over the top of the deep motorway cutting is pretty cool at night.
