I missed the crash was making a brew.

The ladies mechanics were crap more than a min to swap a back wheel, forget the chain and the release for the brakes.

How good was that ?
It wasn't good it was brilliant!    But there should be a rainbow jersey for every member of the team, they all worked their socks off , how Cav managed to work his way through the final gallop was superb.

Didn't see it live; I'm watching it now on the Beeb, even though I know the result.  :(

Why do the World Championships have to be on a circuit?

Would be more visually stimulating if it was like a major tour stage.

For the first time in ages we did the have the TV on in the background thing. Caught the end more by luck than judgement - brilliant stuff. A very big hat.

For spectators at the event I suppose?

Just watching highlights too - just to make doubly sure Cav wins  :P

Jebus, Wiggins should get a medal for that effort he put in, proper buried himself.

How good is this? I can't believe that we have a world champion road cyclist!

If it was in Britain & you had the chance to see it would you rather see it several times or wait around for hours for a fleeting glimps ???

They had a go at the warm up route for the 2012 in SW6, came past at 9am and then at noon. H&F printed out 3 pages of road closures is coming to SW6 prepare for chaos. Not like in DK where we could see along the route, street parties etc in parks and outside Mr Jensen.

Make it laps for the worlds and Olympics as that will bring the punters in for sure.

Fabulous riding by the whole team, finished off to perfection. Congratulations are due to all the British riders on the pro-tour circuit, and to all the support team.

All the comments about how long it's been since Britain had a world road champion  Tom Sipson in 1965 is cited) seem to be ignoring Graham Webb's win in 1967. In those days there was a pro and an amateur championship (now it's just Elites).

What a performance !  Congratulations to the whole team - it's a shame that only one of them gets to wear the jersey.

Who is the next-best British road sprinter, and has he got a chance of winning anything major - say, within the next three years?

...Because we can't have just one man to rely on if the British success is going to last long.

To those not on Twitter yet: it's worth signing up and following Cav and his gf to get a bit of the chat behind the scenes.

It's interesting to watch how Cavendish places himself close to the finish line to shake hands with riders who I assume are members of teams he has ridden for.

It's horses for courses, I don't know where the World Championships are next year, but it could be a circuit that doesn't suit a sprinter.   It was said on Eurosport that when the course in Copenhagen was announced it was realised that it was an ideal sprinter's course and the plan was made to support Cav.

AFAIK the World Championships have always been held on a circuit, as has been said it is a much better spectacle for the spectators to see the riders umpteen times rather than just the once.   It is an annual pilgrimage for supporters from the cycling nations and it is a gigantic street party.

Are you serious ?  Wiggins, Froome, Thomas, Swift, Kennaugh, Dowsett, Blythe to name but 6.  It's very rare that the rainbow jersey is won from a bunch sprint.

It looked to me as though he was waiting for his team mates, but just shaking hands as everyone else passed.

I'm serious, but obviously don't know enough about racing.

Actually I was thinking as much about the tours as the WCs.  What other Brits could be major players in next year's TDF (green or yellow).  Sorry for going OT.

Wiggins and Froome, possibly Thomas for GC.  Thomas and Millar for stage wins.  Wiggins/Froome/Millar/Dowsett ? for the TTs.  Sky for the TTT if there is one.
