My sickle is a modernish one - perhaps 40 - 50 yo. It's offset to keep the hand clear of the ground (but that makes it 'handed') and has a pressed-in curved ridge underneath so that bounces off small lumps. I took out the old bolts and put new ones with wing nuts so that it can be folded for carrying, along with other tool, for clearing bits of RoWs.
The scythe has olde worlde aluminium handle with adjustable handles and the blade can be foled up to the handle - very useful for storage.
I've used it only once, carefully counting feet after each swish!

If you have a grass hook (sickles have serrated blades), then the cheapest 'cigar stone' works very well. Should be able to get one for about £7. Absolutely no need to spend lots of money.

By that definition, what I have offered Mrs.P, is a grass hook. It is without serrations.

Serrated blades! 70 years of calling a grass hook a sickle and now I learn something today!
When I was about 8 - 9 yo I was cutting down nettles with a GH. Nettles were much taller than I but, to be fair, in Cornwall they were above my 6' 2" fathher's head. Slash and jump was a good tactic.

Ah, puny roadway stone, my mighty wheels will push thee aside.

Not, it seems, if those mighty wheels are on a Brompton so are, in fact, less mighty and more repurposed pram wheels.

Still, after not being on a bike for ages, it was nice to find that I still know how to fall off.

O hai TfL!

If the boards at your bus stop say the number 3 bus is supposed to stop at stop “P” outside Brixton Station then could you kindly pass this gen onto your drivers rather than making me walk most of the way to fucking Kennington and stop “F”?

If I'd know that sweet spring shower was actually going to do what it said on the tin rather than bin down for forty minutes (which was what it looked like doing) I could have hidden in the underpass at the Crooked Billet instead of getting soaked.

My employer wants me to prove I'm entitled to work for them by showing them my passport, work visa or birth certificate.

My former employer tried that about ten years ago, and included the requirement that us serfs in Harlow would have to present our papers at HQ in London Town.  This was met with such a resounding “FUCK OFF!” by us Essex Menials that the idea was never mentioned again.

Maybe they considered that the resounding "FUCK OFF" proved that you were true-born Britishpersons.

Meanwhile, I have just given a severe dressing-down to a bottle of white spirit whose anti-moronic-child safety-cap required such downforce that the bottle began to crumple before the misbegotten thing would turn.

I had something similar a few years ago from our HR dept.  29/2/2008 appears to be the key date:

Quote
Under section 15 of the 2006 Act, an employer may be liable for a civil penalty if
they employ someone who does not have the right to undertake the work in question if that
person commenced employment on or after 29 February 2008.
