Title: Upgrading timing chain to Gates belt
Post by: thing1 on 15 June, 2016, 04:47:19 am
Anyone have experience DIYing this? we have Gates on the Paketa so thought it time to convert the Santana over too. (The chain was stretching and got a lot a creaking in there so it all needs some overhaul work so thought it time to do it)

Any tips?

I've ordered the rings and the belt. Hopefully correct sizes :)

Co-motion website said the old chainring bolts will work, http://www.precisiontandems.com/cat_pics/beltdrive_comotion.htm says I'll need slightly longer ones. I've not ordered any, thought I'd get the other bits in first then I'll know for sure.

I looked into it but there are only two lengths of belt to fit standard American bottom tube lengths.  So didn't go any further with it.

I can have a look at our bolts when I am home (on FSA Gossamer cranks).

I seem to recall a line item on the bill for special bolts (I still shudder a little when I think of that bill!).
