  • Oh, no!
Join a French-based, international group of riders on the 16th edition of ‘L’Européenne’.

A gentle introduction to long(ish) multi-day riding for those who like to sleep in a bed o’nights; or a convivial ride ‘en peloton’ for those who’ve done the bus-shelter thing, and can see the attraction of a good sit-down meal with a glass of wine, followed by a night on a soft mattress.

This event, “L’Euro P’N’ 2016: ‘La Route des Forteresses’”  is organised by a group of enthusiast volunteers, in the French ’Euraudax’ style, led by a ‘capitaine de route’ and run off at c. 22.5 kmh moving average.  Overnight stops are at hotels or hostels (mostly castles this year), and all meals are inclusive. Pick-up is in Paris (free secure parking for the duration), returning the following weekend by overnight coach from Prague.

Route is undulating (but not, I think, severe!), with baggage following in a van.  Helpful to have some French, as this is the lingua franca.

Lots of info on the website, http://www.europn-ffct.org/edition-2016/project-2016/  with programme and booking form in English.  Any questions, please ask here or PM me.

Is it really a week of roughly 107km-a-day?

(and might be worth posting the price, as that tends to be a big factor in decision-making)
Has never ridden RAAM

No.11  Because of the great host of those who dislike the least appearance of "swank " when they travel the roads and lanes. - From Kuklos' 39 Articles

The entry form suggests 750€. Not bad at all, given what is included. For Matt, helmet compulsory.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

To clarify: the riding is spread over 5 days, giving an average of c.150kpd.  Note that this is based on the provisional route; there will inevitably be some route tweaking yet, so you'll no doubt get a bit more for your money.
Yes, all-in price 750 euros - or 700 if you're quick!

Another feature of the ride worth mentioning is the presence throughout of trained and licenced motor-cycle escorts (usu 4 or 5 guys), which makes for a very different experience.

HK and I enjoyed the Motos at PBP Audax and other UAF brevets, and chatting with familiar Moto folk at PBP Randonneur. They know their stuff regarding guiding a peloton through without much disruption to other traffic.

Are these providing a fully licensed and stocked mobile bar?

If you want. 'Full' escort services attract an additional charge, though.

Just a few days left to catch the 50 euros reduction for early entries - although still plenty of time to think it over.

In a forlorn attempt to try and wish the winter away I've just entered my first AUK event for ages. Hope this hooly blows itself out well before the Birdwell 100 on March 6!
