In 17 or 18 Easter Arrow we went up the A1101 from Mildenhall.  It was incredibly quiet with road closed signs and no traffic.  Gradually the road got dismantled , the top surface went, the hardcore underneath went, we all came to a stop in deep sand.  We pushed our bikes for 15 mins through the sand to reach the bright lights of where they were working.  We managed to get past the bemused workers as they halted the big machines. Then eventually another 20 mins on we reached a surface we could ride on. It was a Thu night start as they were allowed that time.

Best wishes to y'all doing an Arrow

Ive only done a couple so no expert but I'm surprised to see such early starts.  Id always thought that 10am was the optimum time (assuming a 400km ride).  Bash out as near to 300km as possible by midnight, rest up and get to 375km for your 22 hour control by 8am and enjoy the valedictory last bit in daylight.   Anyhow whatever your plan bon courage

Weather for Easter looks reasonable so my plan is to ride the first 400km of my 600km event as 2 * 200s on Good Friday and Saturday 8th April with an overnight dinner BnB in the Station Hotel Stonehaven.

Brings back many happy memories of my one and only arrow some years ago, a very enjoyable outing with a great team and a 1st class train journey home. Archie’s Shunk 😁

There is a 24 hour McDonald's in the city centre.

Thank you!
We're looking at starting at 7am and grabbing 1st Brekkie at McD before heading to 'spoons for for second breakfast.
If possible I'd rather take a slightly later train home (maybe midday or so), so if anyone would like my 10am train York -> London with bike reservation, get in touch:)
I've modified my existing booking to 11.58. 4 hours pub after a 24hr should be plenty

What do the panel reckon on Friday's weather reporting?
I may bring an extra layer for the night-time stretch.

I'm seeing forecasts as low as 3C on the approach to York, definitely warm tops and winter gloves. also knee warmers. maybe even bibtights, although I prefer not too.

Legwarmers, gilet, winter gloves and woolly hat for the night along with light full-finger gloves, LS jersey and cycling cap for daytime.

I would always assume near freezing temperatures for an Arrow.  Even if it only gets down to 7C (which is balmy for early April in Lincolnshire / Yorkshire) after 16 - 20 hours on the go, it will feel Baltic.

According to the BBC weather;
0° at the start south of Edinburgh
A high of 12° at 4pm in Carlisle
2° at 6am at Ripon
5° at the Finish at York

Full winter kit all day for me

Bit of a headwind to start off with.   A Northerly always takes the edge off temps.   We then zig-zag a bit so wind moves cross and then drops off into the evening making for slightly faster conditions.

I'll stick an extra jacket in for the overnight.   I wouldn't normally have my knees out this time of year anyway.

Just checked the flood alerts on gov.uk: There are amber alerts for the causeways at Sutton Gault and Welney, on the Hundred Foot Washes. Earith Causeway (A1123) - on our route, is ok, phew!

We head to Swaffham first but cross the same stretch of water further North at Wiggenhall.   I wouldn't necessarily have chosen some of the lanes we are using here and there, but I wrote the route ages ago and it's a bit late to be making changes.   It has been pretty dry since last weekend so hopefully not too bad on the skog front.   North of Boston it's all known roads but I may avoid one really small bit of single track lane near Louth as it's easy to take the main road and it will be wee small hours.

the only relevant flood warnings I can find here
https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/?v=map-live&lyr=mv,ts,tw,ta&ext=-0.182944,52.34483,0.613962,52.645621
is a straight line between Earith and Downham Market, my route is west of that line.

many flood warnings in the Thames Valley, Sonning and Islip may be problematic

I rode Somersham -> Earith -> Northstowe last Sunday.   Roads were all dry and fine.  There was extensive field flooding looking east between B1381 and A1123 towards Haddenham. But since I didn’t go that way, don’t know if only confined to fields. Plus a few days have passed.

Another successfull ride.

Eskbank - Biggar - Annandale Water MSA - Dalston - Kendal - Coneygarth - Thirsk - Ripon - York

Hopefully you all managed to stick to the rules this year, and didn't stop for more than two hours.

Good to see a few familiar faces in the Postern Gate

Brevet cards have been returned, and event has gone from being provisional to confirmed, but no ACP homogulation number is shown.
With all other BRM events result only stop being provisional when the ACP number is issued and an ACP sticker with the number is on the card when it is returned

My only other arrow the cards never came back, so I don't know what is normal. Is it usual for cards to be returned quite some time before ACP homogulation numbers are provided on Easter Fleches?

Yes.
The Arrows seem to follow a different timeline for ACP homologation compared to BRM rides. I can't remember when it happened last year but there's usually something of a lag.  We got the certificates through much later, maybe December. In the past I've had certificates and badges, sometimes just certificates and I think it was 2019 where we got nothing back (which may be the year you're referring to) but it was validated on the system.

Also no rush on Easter Arrow brevet numbers, as it doesn’t count as a PBP qualifier. It can wait.

sure, I was just surprised the cards came back before numbers were assigned. Not needed until October to claim ACP5000 or 10000 awards
