Where to buy larger that 1/2 inch tarp eyelets
« on: 16 January, 2019, 12:27:03 am »
Looking to add a couple of eyelets in to the middle of a tarp bike cover so I can thread a cable lock through it.

I know, but not my lock or bike....

Where would you get the eyelets or how could you make the eyelets?

You need the right setting tools for the usual method of fitting traditional brass eyelets, they vary from hand held versions you hit with a mallet to fully automated hydraulic presses, I used to make marquees and have fitted thousands.  You can buy cheap tool sets on Ebay, but I'd be inclined to take it to any local tarpaulin maker who'll be able to do it in seconds. Common sizes go up to 66mm internal.
If you want to do it yourself, there's the option of curtain eyelets that fit with a plastic lock ring, though they're bigger than you're looking for.  There's also tool less plastic versions, though I haven't used them or seen them I'm not sure how big they go. If the purpose is to stop the material fraying, you could do that without eyelets, tenacious tape either side before cutting the holes ought to do it.

Also Flints in Deptford. Flints.co.uk.

Useful if trying to to pick up small amounts of specific chandlery or needing absolute last minute items and damn the cost. Customer service is an enriching experience, apposite for a business that provides for a theatre industry that attempts to encompass the breadth of human life.

I have a gift for finding myself in infuriating sagas that provide others with pant-wetting amusement and Flints has often been my foil.

A very good call with Flints.
I've used them on many occasions - from the times when they were on Queen's Row Walworth.
Lovely people to deal with.
