I have mislaid a 2 metre 6amp cloverleaf lead for the power brick to one of my NUC pc's. I have the NUC and the power brick but no lead. WTF ???
Cheap as chips to buy but inevitably once I do I shall find the stray one.
I am usually very good at not mislaying things so this is particularly annoying.
What have you put down and then cannot find recently?

Not me, but husband once mislaid his monster bunch of keys for every lock on the heritage railway.
The entire volunteer workforce spent half a day looking, and turning his vehicle inside out.
He came home really worried.
I looked at the bag, overalls etc he had bought in, then turned his work boots upside down.....

🤣🤣🤣 I can relate to that one.
My eldest son came home from a night shift and was soon in his bed and fast asleep. Come teatime when he rose he was going nuts trying to find his car keys. He irrationally thought that he must have locked them in the car and was all set to smash a window. He couldn't have locked them in because his door key was also on the ring.
Anyway, we tipped his room upside down metaphorically speaking and after about 15 minutes I turned over one of his work boots. Out fell a smelly sock and a bunch of keys ...

Things disappear at Fort Larrington. Occasionally they show up months later in the unlikeliest places. We are still baffled as to how the tattie-masher ended up in the shed.

Back in the days before remote locking.
The missing car keys were eventually found in the car door.
Left there overnight. Twice!
Just me? Or has anyone else done that?

I have a place for my keys, etc. and they always go there. Mr R leaves them lying around in various places and, whenever we got out, there is the inevitable "Where are my keys? Where are my earphones?" conversations.
It's fine when it's his stuff. What annoys me is that there is a place for the dog's lead and harness... and he frequently just drops them somewhere else. >:(
and what really gets on my tits is when he uses my keys, etc. and then forgets where he's put them... >:( >:( >:(

By day my keys live in my RH trouser pocket or LH jersey pocket; by night they're on my office desk beside my phone. In 2014 I confided them to MrsT before going into hospital and she put them into her jacket pocket. Trouble with that was that the jacket was designed for women. They turned up in a seat slide when we sold our old A4 last year.

Oh, my wife leaves her front door keys - which also have her car key on, the key to the car parked directly opposite - in the front door several times a year. Usually just all day until I get home to find them, occasionally overnight if she's been out. Luckily we're a very low crime neighbourhood.
Me, I'm just crap at looking for things thoroughly. 8)

My favourite trick was ever to pick up the hammer then go find a nail, come back to where I'm working and - where's the fecking hammer?
Being a Renaissance Man* I've also managed to apply this skill to screws, rivets, staples, yoghurt, ramen and what have you.
* and feeling that old these days

Usually it's Allen keys or screwdrivers, when I'm sitting on the floor fettling something. I haven't moved, how can it have vanished?
About half the time it's under my leg or something. Other times it teleports.

Ah yes, the "tidy, tidy" syndrome.

Once upon a time, I was clearing brass (empty cases) from a rifle range. I was also carrying the very old-school brass keys to a landrover in the top pocket of my jacket.
It took a very long time to work out that the missing keys must be in the boxes of empty cases that had been locked in the armoury. It took even longer to get the armourer back, the armoury unlocked and to search through several boxes of brass cases, looking for brass keys.
Much piss was taken.
