Taste of Carolina 1200
« on: 09 August, 2018, 12:00:03 pm »
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt jersey, but it was rather useful as PBP build-up last time, so have decided to go again.

It's a bit earlier this year and so probably warmer, but is entirely within NC which will hopefully balance that out.  Looks like a hilly first 400 and then a gentle role to the coast and back.

Anyone else from right of pond interested?

Event info is here: http://tc1200.bicycleforlife.org/

Trying not to worry that I appear to be the only entrant so far...

I also did a write-up of last time: http://andsl.org/wp/?p=146

I assume you have seen the schedule:

- MC1 - Greensboro NC – 254 miles - Thursday night
SLEEP Stop 1 – NOT covered in your fee - Rider is responsible for reservation and hotel cost at stop 1 Thursday night

- MC2 – Shallotte NC – 495 miles - Friday night
SLEEP Stop 2 – Comfort Inn - 360 Whiteville Rd NW, Shallotte, NC 28470

- MC-Finish – Greensboro –

Which assumes three days rather than the more typical four days for such rides in the states.

I love NC but there's no way I could afford it, unless I can get my colleagues at UNC Chapel Hill to rustle up an expenses paid research visit again...

Yes.  I was thinking it might be nice to split the last 400 somewhere, but it does look a bit sparse on options.  I see that "There will be a control room in Lumberton at the Super 8 Saturday night for riders to stop at so staff can see how they are doing." but by the looks of it that's pretty close to Shallotte so maybe too early to be useful...

Don't think I could do consecutive 400km days.

Normally takes me 21 to 22 hours, to do that and then go again after 2 hours sleep seems very Spartan.

Massive respect to anyone who could complete this. Wonder why they have made it so hard when the time limit for a 1200 should be 90 hours.
