Is that the results of pissing in a force 9?

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

Changing the subject, gotta hand it to the staying power of Hurricane Leslie - first advisory issued by NOAA Sept 23, and still meandering around in the Atlantic, some 20 days later. Good work, Leslie .

I misread that as 20 years later at first!!

I recall, on the evening of 15th October 1987, looking at our thermometer in the garden and it reading 17°C or so. Such temperatures at 10pm in October were beyond my experience. I returned to the house and said to my dear wife "I think we've got a tropical storm coming". This would have been about an hour before Michael Fish's now infamous "Don't worry, we haven't..."

It's now 11.45pm on 12th October and the outside temperature is 20°C.

We had a similarly infamous forecast in 1999: on Christmas Eve we were promised a bit of wind on Boxing Day, but nothing like the two hurricanes that hit us within hours of each other. Météo France have been markedly pessimistic ever since.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

It's all stone floor down there so it can't do much damage.  I've just opened the back door and allowed the Teifi's new tributary to flow.

You seem remarkably sanguine about it.

Sure I'd be running around like a headless chicken Tory party leader...

It's a freak event.  Not much I can do about it.  When you live on hill you don't expect water several inches deep flowing down the road.  It's been absolutely pouring down for two days but looks like it may stop soon.  Our problems will be over as soon as the rain stops.  It's the people lower down I feel sorry for.
The river will continue to rise for several hours after the rain ends.  It's not looking good down there now so god knows what it will be like tonight, poor sods.

Still raining heavily.   Power's off.  Luckily  the ale pumps don't need tricktricity.

It does!

We're not that bad up here, but I'm glad I bailed out of today's soggy audax and drove home while it was still light. The roads all over the country are submerging.

Aira Force is living up to it's name today (from the paper)

Climbs like a sprinter, sprints like a climber!

Our parkrun was cancelled due to the wind. We run in the park surrounding Montacute House and the NT have rules about these things. Amber warning == no parkrun.
MrsC and I went down to help turn people away this morning. Felt really sorry for the three chaps who'd driven down from London, getting up at 5.30, to do a bit of tourism. At least they were early enough to be able to get to another run.

Black as night and hissing it down here.  Supposed to carry on for most of the day.  It'll fill the reservoirs.

HK and I have ditched this morning's Gridiron in favour of hanging about drinking coffee in Lymington. Hopefully it'll have eased off this afternoon when we need to ride over to Southampton for our train. We could have miserably slogged our way round the route, but where is the fun in that?
