The SRAM Spectro hub gear turned up today & a neighbour took it in whilst I was out on a motorbike ride through the leafy lanes of Warwickshire. Bless.

Because I wasn't in & didn't get it early enough, I can't get the rim I want in time to have the Pompino ready for the weekend! I'm thinking of swapping the tyres on the Orbit that I'll have to take from Schwalbe Land cruisers to Schwalbe Delta Cruisers. There be hills in Shropshire.

Double bollocks: My LBS can't get hold of the rim for 4-5 days. Ho-hum.

Broadribbs LBS Leamington: I'm glad I called in whilst passing yesterday to enquire about this task as it is obviously very low on your priorities. Telling me it may be ready after next weekend made me walk away, as I would have been very blunt had I said anything.

It seems you got the message as you've just called to say it will be ready tomorrow, which coincides with my next visit to your town.

You may be cheap, but I will consider alternatives next time.

PS. I seriously want to take a photo of our folders outside the Brompton General Store . . .  ;D

It's occurred to me that there must be several places called Brompton, and many roads with that name. There's a photo project...

I got 93% for my first computer marked assignment.

Two of my errors were input errors on my end (though really, how hard is it to set up a system that flags when you've only entered one answer for a question that wants two?!).

Oh well, lesson learned.

Gasman has been and managed to re-light the pilot on our decrepit boiler, through the devious method of holding the knob down for about 3 times longer than the specified 60 seconds plus a healthy margin that I tried earlier.

He then diagnosed the cycling as a clogged heat exchanger, and declared it uneconomical to repair.

Whether the latter is good or bad news remains to be seen.

I think I traumatised him by knowing how a heat exchanger works...

Not just a dodgy thermocouple then..?

He then diagnosed the cycling as a clogged heat exchanger, .

Option 1 -
Your 'eat exchanger is recumbent?

Option 2 -
If you unclog your heat exchanger you stop cycling? Sounds like a bad bargain to me

Not just a dodgy thermocouple then..?

That is presumably why the pilot went out, but my previous illicit investigations with a multimeter and copy of the service manual support the heat exchanger hypothesis.  "Boiler isn't working" is a slightly more letting-agent-friendly fault report than "boiler cycles intermittently and gives disappointingly lukewarm baths", however.

Good news: 3 seem to have finally fixed whatever they broke when they did some "maintenance" in my area.

Bad news: it was broken for about a month. And now I'll probably end up wasting even more time here, oops I mean increasing my knowledge.

Good news: My manager of the last 15+ years is retiring tomorrow after 40 years and we are all going to get slightly pished..

Bad news: He's going because he can't take the crap anymore and because senior management were going to move him sideways as he wasn't enthusiastic enough about implementing "efficiencies"......

Good news: I've been offered a job,
Bad news: I don't want it! It involves lots of cold calling and face-to-face visits. It's also self-employed, which the initial JC+ ad didn't make clear.

There's a chance I can branch into marketing - they do need help in that direction - so I'll see what the chances are before I turn it down flat.

Good news: We have a shiny (and significantly smaller) new boiler on the wall.

Bad news: They didn't finish plumbing it in, so it's going to be cold water and fan heaters tonight.

Hurrah!  The BigCo has uncovered the presence of a Thief in the post room, which explains why so much of my Stuffs ordered from Nozama has gone missing in the past couple of years.

Bah!  Although the tea-leaf has been sacked without references, neither the BigCo nor the polis has brought charges ???

Bad news: Oh Open University. I can understand that your study planner only has space for one due date for assignments even if they are in two parts.

But would it not make sense to put the earlier of the two dates in said box. There I am thinking I've got till 23rd Nov for the assignment and NOPE, part 1 is due on 26th of OCTOBER!!

Good news: At least I saw the message warning us of this now rather than later and will have time this weekend to potter through the assignment.

Of course I guess I should have read through more carefully all the paperwork they've sent me  :-[ Work has been manic though but excuses excuses.

Good news: I have training this morning with my horse and get to use my new horse box for the first time! I'm up on time and very excited!

Bad news: I also feel sick and have just had to go to the loo for the fourth time since getting up an hour and a half ago! :-/
