Excellent final lap. Bad luck on Nibali, but the Spaniards were a pretty strong pair, you feel they would have done well even without the Italian mishaps. Nice to have such an uncertain outcome.
(EDIT: I've rather overlooked the portuguese chap! But basically the spanish pair did all the damage, I reckon Nibali would have won it without them.)
Good tweet from Hutch:
"Was hoping, when Costa and Rodriguez had that chat, that they were going to pick a side of the road each, and man it out Simpson/Altig style"
unpatriotic rant:
But I'm very disappointed in the Brits. Two of them are top climbers, I don't see any excuse for being so crap. Can't believe they had anything to save energy for, and they've raced in dangerous conditions throughout the year. I tuned in too late to see any of them riding (hardly difficult), but from clips, the tactics looked even more appaling than previous outings. Apart from Cav, I'm not sure any of them gave a damn - and Cav was given a pointless job. Wiggo just about has the excuse of the TT - but that was only an hour, and plenty of his competitors did a LOT better in the RR.
