The crash is now on Youtube if you're interested - http://www.youtube.com/v/rltqF-HT9iU&rel=1.

Glad that Hoy had already deployed the afterburners and was clear of the carnage.

The race was worth watching just for Hoy's performance - recommended!

[I don't think the BBC actually showed the splinter when I watched, despite the "look away" warning. But I might have been distracted by a crumpet at the time ...
EDIT: rewatched. Somehow it was invisible in the early trackside footage, but all too visible as he was stretchered away - eeeyuw! ]

They did show it, but I didn't notice it. I watched the aftermath as they took his shoe off and put him on the stretcher, I didn't notice the splinter at all. It was only after Hugh & Chris mentioned it and showed it again that I saw it - they obviously didn't notice it first time round either. Maybe because there was no blood and the NZ & Spanish riders' ripped skinsuits were more obvious.

I heard Chris or Hugh say today that they left the splinter in overnight before attempting to take it out. Probably looking for a big enough pair of tweezers.

Hard bastard or what? Makes you realise what a bunch of soft wankers the £50k per week soccerball players are. Give them a nudge and they fall about in death agonies.

I really hope Awang is up and at 'em in 2012.

They reckon he will be back on a bike in two weeks. Hopefully be competitive soon.
