If there is an accident, very few judges will back the roaduser on the wrong side of the road.
And anyway, in this case it was a rule of this race. If riders can't be bothered with rules of the road, they should at least stick to race rules! No need to piss off the volunteers running the race for you, and they are the ones who get the stick from plod and nimbys.
