Engage Etrex30 Warp Drive Scottie!
« on: 13 July, 2012, 01:13:43 pm »
Move over Wiggins, move over Froome, I hit 7000 km/h without turning a pedal this morning.

This has happened several times before but in the past I have only noticed when well into my ride.  Today I caught it before I got going.  It seems that the Etrex30, after being turned on and reset, reinserts the length of my last ride, or the distance from the place it was when it was last turned off.

Reset before starting a new ride seems to require a multi-stage activity:
Trip Computer - left button, clear all timers etc, Yes front click
Track Manager - left button, current track, clear current track
Where to? (I think that is where it is) - stop navigation (sometimes it is still trying to navigate to the last destination)

It is after I went through all of the above today that the phantom odometer reading got reinserted, and I'm pretty sure I had a full satellite lock before I started the reset/initialisation.

Any idea what is wrong with my technique?

All the Garmins I've ever had (several) do it, I just ignore it.  But I usually put it down to resetting before the satellite lock is finalised.
when you're dead you're done, so let the good times roll

Thanks - glad I'm not the only one.  I'll try letting it settle down a bit longer before zeroing everything.
