Title: Northumbria SR
Post by: Deano on 02 January, 2020, 11:51:01 pm
I've been saying for years that there needs to be a badge for the Northumbrian SR.

No-one took any notice, and I've finally had to do it myself, but luckily there are loads of qualifying rides:

You'd have got one last season, FI.

Great idea,  I better find a 400 to enter from the list then

Of course the GNR 400;
I missed the Tyneside Vags one last year when I started to suffer miserably early on in Border Nights and abandoned at Gala.

Lots of good rides to choose from. And I love a good badge, me.

Now updated for 2022! Shame Andy's 600 is now a Scottish/Cumbrian ride, so you'll have to come and do my 600 (or 1000 if you already have an entry) if you want to qualify this year.

Was a bit gutted when I realized that Brampton is the wrong side of the border and would only be getting a Tyneside Vags SR badge for 2021
Although I was a tad late in realizing I was only the 200 short of that, and was rather delighted to get it after 2019s 400 failure.

2022....

You'd have had to ride my 600 this year to qualify.

One rider was only short a 300, gutting.

The list is up-to-date with the qualifying rides for this year: https://audaxdarleaux.wordpress.com/2020/01/02/northumbria-sr/

A few riders on course after the Fling, but you would need to ride that or my 600 to qualify...

And I've updated it with the happy few who've qualified for the much-coveted badge this year. It's not quite over yet, one rider only needs a 200 (I have alerted them to this fact).

https://audaxdarleaux.wordpress.com/2020/01/02/northumbria-sr/

Next year, it looks as though you'll still need to ride my 600 to qualify, but between me and Andy, Aidan and Dave, I think there'll be a decent choice of rides. Get your sewing kits ready.

It will be sewn on my blanket of such badges with pride. Thanks Deano!

Well done, Dave. Your name is up in lights here, along with the other Northumbrians, and I've also updated the qualifying rides for 2023:

https://audaxdarleaux.wordpress.com/2020/01/02/northumbria-sr/

Looks as though you'll have to do my 600 and 400, though Andy B may add another 400. Otherwise, there are plenty to choose from.

Tough to qualify this year with no 400, only one 600 and a sold out 1000.

Can you use DIYs for the missing distances?

Sticking with calendar events, but an ECE would be fine, I reckon.

I was toying with an X-rated 400, but I'm not sure I'll have the time to do all the route checking.

I'd love to make the trip for Peewhits & Curlews again but I seem to be rather stuck my my annual leave limitations this year.

Ride a 400 or attend Mum's 80th birthday celebration ?   Let me take it away and think about it.

Technically the 'do' starts late lunch on Sunday.   It's theoretically possible to get round and there in time but I suspect I would be lousy company.

I particularly like the 1100 start time for the 400.

I used to favour an evening start time to get the night bit out the way while fresh but have come round to the view that late morning is the best (allows a full nights sleep pre event and leaves lots of time on day 2 to finish).

I can't promise I'll run it another year, but your mam's only 80 once! Our mam wanted to go out dancing for her 80th (not ballroom, she wanted to jive), I wouldn't have missed it for anything.

One of my favourite 400s was Aidan's Hot Trod, I've nicked the format, an 11 am start and a possible sleep stop at 280 km.

If it was properly X-rated, I'd have gone for an evening start just to make it easy for me.  This works too!
