Title: Eurovision
Post by: mrcharly-YHT on 08 May, 2024, 01:01:47 pm
I quite enjoy the ridiculous spectacle.

Listened to snippet of the candidates. Nothing stands out.

As usual, UK puts forward totally fine but utterly bland song.

I'm boycotting it, as they're allowing Israel to be in the competition (whose act has backed the genocidal actions of the IDF).

My daughters are doing the same even though they normally love it, and adore Olly Alexander, too. Personally I've been boycotting it for about 30 years.

I haven't watched it since 1967.

Accidentally saw some of tonight's semi finals.
Stayed watching for a few acts.
At some point in the future we will ask, why did female singers feel that they had to dress like that?

Also, it's shit.  Although we accidentally watched the Conchita Wurst one in 2014 and were glad we did.

Playing the Eurovision game as we.watch.  I gave Israel 0 for both political and artistic reasons.

Our youngest is an avid Eurovision fan but is boycotting it this year. She’s gutted, but believes she’s doing the right thing.

The uk entry was utter shite, choreography from the 1990s and utterly bland song

I kind of enjoyed most of the baltics, Finland, Estonia, Ireland as well

Germany most emphatic, hope Israel get the points they deserve

I liked Croatia, Armenia, and Austria.  Ireland was horrible.  Olly Alexander’s performance was dire.  I don’t think the OTT homoerotic stuff will sit well with our European brethren either - I’d be astonished if UK doesn’t come last, and if so, it would be entirely deserved.

UK was dreadful.  Ireland was wonderful.

My goodness, I'm not sure I understand the criticism of the UK entry here. Camp boxers, performative homo-eroticism in a filthy shower-room, cod-pieces, and a singlet that's clearly the New Romantic take on a wife-beater? Was there anything not to like in that?

I thought the mise en scene of the UK actually was fine, but the song was meh.
Ukraine, Croatia and Finland top three.

Hmm, everything you mentioned?

Finland disappointing in its score,

With our nul points from the Europublic, are They trying to tell us something?

Probably that they don't give a shit about the UK.

I'd be more concerned about the 12 points we (OK, those who voted, possibly repeatedly, possibly in an organised fashion) gave the Israeli act

The Gammonariat seems pleased about that, though, in between rants about how woke it’s become “these days”.

The nul points were from the public vote.  So the message is that not enough people like the UK song.
