You could at least pretend I wasn't the only incompetent person there. Or that I was competent. Or something. ::-)
I don't finish work till 6pm tomorrow, and have an immediate date with Crusty to celebrate his birthday. Would love to come another time though.
Wednesday is the best night for me, now.
Let's call it Thursday, meet at NA and ride up to Middleton st George. Delightful ride over the Tees at Dinsdale. Possible extra riding out to Middleton One Row, and Aislaby, where the Toytown crew may want to meet. Back to MSG. 5 miles back to Darlo train station.
I think we need more evenings in a week. Longer weekends would be good too.
How about this as a route?
Mission accomplished-I haz orange cardboard.
How about this as a route?
We could pop across the A19 and go and see my Auntie Ruth! Although this would, of course, decrease the amount of beer time available. Having said that, she does do extremely good cake.....
Jogler - orange cardboard = train tickets & bike reservations.
CL, are you on the 23:16 out of Darlo?
CL + no cake = why we haz rain...
i haz no caik.
Foxton Lane. Yes, we did ride down it, and yes, it was on the route. Better than the A684.

Oddly enough the first thing I thought when Deano got to my house "you've brought some gears then"
If Deano needed gears I hope, for the benfit of others, there was a funicular railway or similar.
Contrary to those photos, we did ride the vast majority of the route. But I can't take photographs with my phone whilst I'm riding. Especially not through fords and on interesting surfaces and when ducking under trees. Or when going rather-more-than-cubspeed. So I only took photographs when we stopped :)
Shame Dinsdale Bridge was closed, there's nowt about in on t'interwebs. We'll have to go back when it's open then! Although I thought contingency bridge was really rather pleasant.
How good were those chips?Remarkably good. And all the better for being illicit (and unexpected!) chips for favoured customers who merit 'special treatment' and are allowed chips even when the pub's not serving food.

I seem to remember that we said that this was unlikely this week?
I'm not able to come out to play tonight or tomorrow - and apart from anything else appear to have utterly borked my shoulder/neck somehow on Friday night so am a bit dubious about non-utility miles for a few days as it doesn't seem to be improving much :(
But I should be OK for next week AFAIK.
Dunno. Shall we come down to York instead next week? That'd be nice - I could join you then (waits for sound of feet rushing in opposite direction ;) )
There's a 23.18 TPE train from York to Darlo which also stops at Northallerton. So a loop from York would seem to be in order.
There's an EC after it,
Expect Chaos, more like ...

The Dawnay Arms (http://www.thedawnayatnewton.co.uk/)
St.Vincent Arms (Sutton on Derwent)
The Star (Huby)
21.15 miles and 118m ascent(!)No way. Got to be a mistake. I'd have said you couldn't manage more than 11m ascent on that route.
That looks good to me.Like everything else, cake is fine in moderation although anything with raisins and sultanas is a no-no, mainly because I just don't like them. Cake+riding=not bad. Cake+being an idle fat bastard=not so good.
Interzen, a very important question. I know that cake in anything other than miniscule quantities is verboten. Where do you stand on the subject of cheese scones?
Hmmm.... that's a point. Does it have a comedy off-road section or any bridges?Could be arranged - could go along Plainville Track to Huby.
Ah buggrit.I posted a map, didn't I? :)
Hang on.
Does that mean I'm meant to know where we're going?
Double buggrit.
But I don't have a gps!In the event that I don't make it, I'll keep this route in reserve for A.N.Other time.
Ah, we'll be reet. Might end up somewhere different, but that's OK!
It's over that (<^>) way isn't?Up a bit and to the left.
Bah. Sounds as though a trundle out is just what you need, but fair enough.Tell you what, you can have first dibs on the cheese scones.
Bagsy me not in charge of routefinding!
I am awake, just and aching like a B**tard....
Here is a potential route for next Tuesday....
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0BzEwR_DVsTVXN2E0ZjUxY2YtY2I3OS00MzZkLWE3YzItZjUwNzJjODc4YmJj&hl=en_GB&authkey=CImbj80I
WARNING: may contain segments of comedy off road :)
Not that it makes any difference to what I'll ride (since it a choice of Valencia or Valencia), but do we have a comedy off road section this week again then?
Actually, if we're aiming for Scorton, which makes more sense timing wise - back to NTR for the 22:30 or onwards to Darlo for the 23:19?
In answer to your first question, yes, from Danby Wiske to Birkby is a green lane.
Whichever you like. It's a nicer ride back to Northallerton - going to Darlo means at least 4 or 5 miles on the A167 (though there is a Grade 1 listed bridge).
In answer to your first question, yes, from Danby Wiske to Birkby is a green lane.
So, are you on the Ridley? Or is the Saracen coming out to play and am I going to be winning the least appropriate bike award this week I wonder..... :P
Full sus Diamond Back, then . . . ?
I'm a bit dubious for this week. Somebody's manful has got me, and I have a sneaking suspicion that non-functioning lungs would limit the amount of fun. Bah humbug.

I'm still planning to be there but if the wind holds up I'll probably be inNA a bit after six. Howling, it is.
Was there chips too?
D & T
Me like. Although you haven't said which 6 o'clock....Ouch! :)
Tuesday.Might be a round to the station straight from work job, then, coupled with another home working day on Wednesday ;) (which is my usual WAH day anyway)
you haven't said which 6 o'clock....
::-)
I'm booked on the TPE which arrives in York at 18.09 tomorrow. See y'all there.
...we are meeting at the station, right?

That's my plan, although I will probably meet you on the train.
I am sure some of will manage to have some Vitamin I and at least one of us will have a spoke key :)Sadly, it doesn't work.
quite a quick ride, I thought.Given that it was interzen's longest ride for a while following his interaction with a motorised dimwit, you having done a little bike ride at the weekend and me having somewhat limited lung functionality, it wasn't as slow as one might have expected :)
Next week: more drinking and eating.I Approve Of This Plan.
Danby Wiskegood pub there, I'm told
Scortonand there!
Will definitely be out next week if I can either get away from work early enough or swing a work-at-home day.
My current policy is with eSure, who handily changed their 'office equipment' exclusions to include (and I quote) "laptops, mobile phones and computer equipment designed to be portable". Wonder how they'd handle something like the Mac Mini, then ::-)
Will definitely be out next week if I can either get away from work early enough or swing a work-at-home day.
 \o/
And on the subject of your home insurance:
1) the theiving feckers
2) find a new insurer
3) name and shame
interzen - last train back from Darlo is the 23:18 or summat like, and it's an East Coast so requires a bike reservation!I'll deal with that next week - travelling from Darlington clearly means there'll be more time for philosophical conversations about liminal spaces and bridges :)
Unless you can get cheap advances, interzen, I found last time that the cheapest way was to get a day return York to Northallerton and a single Darlo to Northallerton, and a bike booking Darlo to York on the 23:18. You can ticket split at Northallerton, apparently - it slightly confused the sales chap, but he said it wasn't against the rules and it saved a few quid compared with getting a return to Darlo and travelling short on the way up or getting two singles.£8.00 day return to Northallerton, £4.70 single from Darlington to Northallerton ... works for me.
I thought a day return was nearer a tenner-£9.50 or £9.70 or summat? But yes, summat like that :)Whichever way you care to slice it it's still cheaper than a York-Darlington return, which given how close it is to payday (and the resulting state of my bank balance) is definitely a Good Thing[tm]. Shall be sorting the appropriate bits of cardboard out on my way home tonight.
I has matching orange cardboard :) The east coast guard on the 17.37 isnt going to like us!<Dr Evil>
In fairness, you can just hop on the 17:40 TPE with no reservation, which is what I normally do (and will be doing if I miss the 37). I only went for the east coast one because that's the one you said you were on!All sorted - picked me up another couple of bits of cardboard on the way home.
You did notice that the Darlo-York one is a EC too, didn't you?Yes.
I'll be getting a train to NA unless there's a vast improvement to my knee. Dunno if I should even be cycling.
:oGiven the current weather forecast that might be the most sensible idea.
That doesn't sound good. We could always just go to the pub in Northallerton?
on the other hand the past few days have been so unspeakably shit that, given my current frame of mind, I'd not be very good company.
Crusty probly can't ride to the pub either, due to work commitments, but was thinking of driving out for a pint later. He was just going to give me a lift home. We have two racks on the car so you wouldn't necessarily have to ride back if your knee wasn't up to it.
The offer's out there.
Well, the bike is prepped and ready to go (I've decided to ride The Beast again, since OrangeGina is currently sans bar-tape) I'm just not sure about the preparedness of the rider, that's all.on the other hand the past few days have been so unspeakably shit that, given my current frame of mind, I'd not be very good company.
Oh, don't worry about that. They even put up with me in a wednesday mood.

I'll prob. take you up on that, depending how things are tomorrow. I might even ask for a lift from Darlo :)
Someone does know the way to Manfield, don't they?I'll see if I can put together a GPX track based on the above tomorrow, but I'll probably need it to be supplemented with a bit of Local Knowledge[tm].
Basically, the usual (i.e. on-road) route to Scorton, take the road beside the Farmer's Arms to Moulton, take the second right in Moulton for Middleton Tyas, in Middleton Tyas follow the signs to Barton, after Middleton Tyas go left at the T after the wee descent on Kneeton Lane, past the wagon park, straight over the RAB with the A1, keep going until you see a right for Manfield at a crossroads.
I'm going to sit this one out, for the simple reason that: my body currently feels like hammered shit (due to lack of directions from the hospital I ended up walking far more than I intended) and the black cloud of depression has settled on my mind like a lead souffle.
So, have fun and I'll see you all next week with a bit of luck.
My knee's better\o/
That sounds.... positively sensible!
but I'm not taking any chances.
I'll just be having a gentle potter up to the pub to meet you there. If you can text me when you're at Middleton Tyas, I'll set off then. First one there gets the round in!So a reasonable chance of us not getting lost getting back to the station :) I'm fairly certain that it's my round, since I managed to not buy any drinks at all for either me or the cub at Tan Hill, somehow :-[
It's rained a couple of times here, but otherwise it's been OK ;)Yep, new iPad - a 64Gb iPad2, to be precise.
That route looks spot on - new iPad BTW?
ETA: that route from Northallerton isn't quite right, as we'd generally avoid the B-road and take the lanes via Danby Wiske, Streetlam and Forest:Local knowledge, see? ;)
Hoying down here in Darlo. It's moving southwards, by the looks of it.
As others have said, a fantastic night, good company, more beer choice than you shake a large stick at and nice food, but NO CHIPS!!!!That might be the same monsoon that hit York a couple of hours later - sweet Jeebus, it absolutely pissed down.
the weather wasn't too bad, barring the monsoon that hit us near Danby Whiske.
I sorta unilaterally decided that it would be Thursday this week, starting and finishing in Northallerton. Hope that's OK, t!
I was thinking a 20-25 mile loop to somewhere close to Northallerton (The Buck or closer) and then getting people back for trains. If "Slow"Coach or I are going back north, we'll either have to book a train, or catch the 11.55 TPE. Or ride, of course.
Now there is a plan and a half! But will there be chips?
Now there is a plan and a half! But will there be chips?
Dunno ... I'll have to find a Catholic bear and ask it.Now there is a plan and a half! But will there be chips?
Does the Pope shit in the woods?
Blimey, that's a bit organised. For NTR I normally just turn up and buy, then hop on a TPE.I haven't actually pre-booked the ticket, rather I'll wander over to the station at lunchtime and do the necessary.
Try this, about 23 miles pre-pub, and only about 3 post-pub :)Works for me - I've downloaded the GPX and put it into the FruitPhone :)

Although I'm not sure that they do chips...
Or possibly just accepting defeat in light of last night's chip supremacy. I mean, what are the chances of beating that?
and nothing really did happen, on this occasion...
It appears that they do chips, as well as numerous other things: Blacksmiths Arms Public house and Restaurant in Naburn, York (http://blacksmithsarmsnaburn.co.uk/) - downside: they stop serving food at 8.30. I can state for the record that their Sunday BBQs are most excellent too (not that that's any help on a Tuesday, though)Although I'm not sure that they do chips...
FAIL!
I can state for the record that their Sunday BBQs are most excellent too (not that that's any help on a Tuesday, though)
I shall apply a bit of route-fu to the problem.
Careful what you wish for - you don't say things like that to an Audax rider, even a slightly lapsed one ;)I can state for the record that their Sunday BBQs are most excellent too (not that that's any help on a Tuesday, though)
I shall apply a bit of route-fu to the problem.
Such a long and convoluted route that it takes us from Tuesday til Sunday to get there?
Or possibly just accepting defeat in light of last night's chip supremacy. I mean, what are the chances of beating that?
somewhere close to zero I would imagine :) Especially for what they charged us :)
Deano forgot to post the pics of the aftermath....
Err... Probably me. S'cool, we can just do the route of the cub's night ride but stopping at all the pubs on the way! That's sorta-kinda what I was suggesting - down to Riccall on the cycle track, then return via the back roads stopping at any convienient (or even inconvenient) hostelry that you might find.
Err... Probably me. S'cool, we can just do the route of the cub's night ride but stopping at all the pubs on the way!
Of note, and as discussed last night, the next 2 Thursdays (tomorrow and next Thursday) will be super easy ones, due to both introducing new riders to the joys of these rides.Tomorrow, definitely not (too short notice)
Tomorrow is an easy pootle from Thirsk to Maunby (approx 7 miles each way) then next Thursday is an easy route out to Maunby(or out to Danby Whiske and back), turn round and come back to Thrintoft (yes THAT Thrintoft).
Any takers?
Routes to follow, warning this week might well involve COR, next week will be all road :)
Actually, since I'm *cough*working from home*cough* tomorrow, it could be doable as there are more trains to Thirsk than I thought, including one that gets in at 18:00. If I have enough mojo I may ride home afterwards.
Next week is still dependent on how I feel after the dentists have done their thing, though.
Time and place for meeting, plz?
Next week is, I do believe, Thursday from Northallerton.I believe you believe correctly.
There's also the fact that I'd have a drastically reduced chip-eating capacity1 - I believe that if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing right ;DHow would we tell?
Shame, Simon. Hope it goes OK.
I've seen your chip-eating capacity, and it's only good news for the rest of us that it's reduced. We are going to Thrintoft again, you know.I know, which is what makes non-attendance all the more annoying.
I just managed to avoid a nothing happened moment in a very large and muddy puddle. Delicious soup and, naturally, excellent chips-and Tiermat even let me nick some of his mushy peas. Which were nice! Cracking company, and back to NTR with plenty of time for our train. Sleepy now...Chips and mushy peas?
I'm lacking in cake, but not to worry. I believe LG still has the coffee cake you gave her for me t'other week.
Parkgate exit. I've come up with a (mostly) (gentle) off-road route.
Now if I turned up on the cnoc, that would win.
But I'd never get to the pub!
I thought we were going to Thrintoft?
Do they have another pub?
I'll just have to bring spare socks.
Rain's stopped in Darlo.
hmmmm, mebbes, ford will be up too, after all the rain of the last week....But there's the little pedestrian bridge on the ford. Nothing Will Happen if you use that.
The ford'll be alright - it's the grassy bits that concern me.At least it's a soft landing.
Did next week get discussed, and if so where are we going to/from?(I know Deano is off on his France jaunt on Thursday, but that shouldn't stop us going out (sorry Deano)).Any chance of a fixed/back-friendly route this time round?
Shall I substitute back/fixed friendly for "flat"?Back/fixed friendly =/= completely flat - given my current state, something like Foxton Lane would be a tough ask on the fixed. I'm not a good climber at the best of times anyway.
ETA: location? York or NTR? What night is best? Lets start with the basics and work from there :)
Can't make it :-\'Tis the curse of the drinking classes.
Blummin' werk
Can't make it :-\'Tis the curse of the drinking classes.
Blummin' werk
Also means potentially more chips for me ;D
Afaik I can do whenever. Tonight/tomorrow probably tricky tho. I'm assuming no Deano, since his "tapering" for the French ride has already included silly hilly to the lion and a last minute C2C!
O:-)Can't make it :-\'Tis the curse of the drinking classes.

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=297655Fine by me, providing there are fried potato products of some description available at the end of it ;)
I call it Snake 'n' Chips :)
380ft climbing in 13.5 miles is not lumpy, in the slightest, hope it's ok with you IZ
I'll have 'em! Might be a bit challenging to arrange a handover... are you at work or wfh today?I'm in the office today - there are some more things I need to sort out before I can go home (no more servers though, thankfully) so I'll leave here at 5ish and loiter with intent in the station entrance hall. I should be easy enough to spot - I'll be one of the few who isn't falling-over drunk (I hate race days ...)
Talking of which, there was an offroad section with a high NSTN rating. ;D
Lasagne was built (whilst talking to crusty, and fettling bike lights (don't worry I did wash my hands))You can't be too careful. Who knows what would happen if you got bechamel in your lights? ::-)
Met by friendly landlord who helped us put bikes in his massive shed. Very carefully we did not fall into the acid bath which was there.
Lasagne was built (whilst talking to crusty, and fettling bike lights (don't worry I did wash my hands))You can't be too careful. Who knows what would happen if you got bechamel in your lights? ::-)
The best bit was, I felt good on a bike, and I felt good being me.
I'll see how my back is feeling tomorrow - given that I've just committed myself to the Way Of The Roses ride I really ought to make the effort ...I'll be up for a ride at the weekend,York ish so I can ride out from home. How about the Pontefract Steam Rally on Sunday
EDIT: Can't make it after all ... anyone fancy turning this into a Saturday or Sunday ride instead?
Thank God I don't have to go to Leeds Festival this weekend. Finally sold that bloody ticket so I won't have to hang out with young thin people going deaf and using Portaloos.Off topic - sorry.

Mrs GT and I regularly cycle to Bolton Percy and back on Saturday's. My route involves using the road between Thorner and Bramham. We were planning going on Saturday, but am worried that that section of road will be too busy with people trying to get to the festival. Should I avoid it or take a chance?

Yep, thought so. Ta Martin. There was no indication of closed roads but I'd expect more traffic than usual, drivers who are not used to the road, maybe in a rush, stopping at odd places etc. In previous years I've gone up through Aberford, and across the A1(M) at the A64 junction and to Tadcaster on the back road (Warren Road), the access road up to Bramham is sign posted route for the festival and it's been very busy.
Would they have stopped us from using the road?
So, Wednesday then... where shall we go? I'll start with an opening bid for the farmers arms at scorton. Haven't been there for ages! Tiermat might have to be a little inventive to get a route up to distance, mind.
but then my fears started melting away. The evening was warm, the roads were quiet, the lights were good, my eyes didn't hurt, and the tension in my neck started to fade away. It's a stretch of road I don't normally like, and last time I rode it in the dark was on the Yorkshire Puddings Ride in February. It was not long after LG's accident. She was in Surrey at the time and not sure she'd ever get on a bike again. And now here she was...
We got back to Tiermat's and I didn't feel squashed anymore. Like last time at the Green Tree I felt good to be me again. Having fun and seeing LG have fun, and being in the company of funny, caring and interesting people made everything better....although the best bit was obviously the chips.
I'm still picking bits of grass out of my mudguards.Sounds like I might have dodged a bullet there, 'cos if I had been out I'd have been on Custard the Fixed ...
I hope you can come, Adam.
Simon - I'll be passing through York on Sunday, if you can fit in a wee ride out towards Beverley.
I haz babysitter. Hurry for CrinklyAuntie and CrinklyUncle!
I hope you can come, Adam.Given the circumstances, it'd be remiss of me *not* to try and fit in a wee ride towards Beverley (or even to Beverley itself, mojo permitting)

Oh really? What time on Sunday is this?
Looking at a rough route that takes in Foxton Lane, we can either hit the Fox and hounds or return to Green Tree, where we know the beer and chips are good.
It only adds a couple of miles onto the trip, so who is up for that (I had better ring them later today to warn them so they can rumble some more spuds for chips :) )
I haz babysitter. Hurry for CrinklyAuntie and CrinklyUncle!
Good to hear that, enjoy. I wish to beg a favour off you, would you please be so kind and give Dean a kiss and hug from me, many thanks
Me three, just in case I don't see him on Sunday1. No tongue ;)I haz babysitter. Hurry for CrinklyAuntie and CrinklyUncle!

Good idea! Give him the same from me too?
Me on a Monster Truck, I mean on my 29er.Just wait 'til I get Pugsley :demon: ;D
Juggling chips and a pint? That's impressive ;)And kudos to crusty, who surely takes the prize for most miles ridden for a pint and a bowl of chips on one of there endeavours.Totally, and for amazing juggling too!
Juggling chips and a pint? That's impressive ;)
I should think not - criminal waste of beer, that.Juggling chips and a pint? That's impressive ;)
and he didn't spill a drop...
Of course there will be chips and beer :)Will be there :) Will there be any of those lovely cakes left?
Due to us missing two members this week (one off on a little jaunt and the other is hurty hurty) this weeks might be a bit sparse, but it will go ahead all the same.
All on road? a bit of COR? how far?
Of course there will be chips and beer :)

Which night are you planning - Thursday? I may possibly get a pass out again - but I'll have to bring Beryl along again so the offroading had better not be too severe.
I have one word to describe SC and IZ....It's more to do with the fact that I'm riding to work tomorrow, having wasted today waiting for Shitty Link (who still haven't turned up - they've got precisely 6 minutes) and I don't really like riding on tarmac with 'cross tyres more than I really need to. If I want more traction then I'll just let some air out of the tyres ... if it gets really gnarly then I'll flip the wheel round and ride single speed.
WIMPS :)
Seriously though, I will make sure there is not too bad, if any Off Road bits....
What pub are you aiming for? Since i'll have a sitter here, i could ask on the off-chance that CA & CU fancy a trip to the pubbe for chips...
Crusty and I should be there. Would TLD be happy to guard our car while we're at the pub, d'you think? Last train from NTR to Toytown is 21.47, and I am at work at early o'clock on Friday, so shouldn't really ride home.
4km against gravity?! Is that on the way there, or the way back?
Which climb is it?
Looks like Tiermat might have to warn the pubbe to rumble extraspuds....Extra everything - I'm eating like a sodding horse at the moment, and I'm doing this ride on fixed.
Oh Arse! Never mind I'll have your chips.Being bounced around on the bus for half an hour has done little for the muscles in my neck or my temperament - I've just fashioned myself a crude, yet functional, neck brace from a length of cardboard, my Karrimor pack towel and a length of Cat5 cable. We'd run out of sticky-backed plastic.
I have emailed landlord to let him know :)

OK, so Wednesday I will get to York for about 18:10, usual meeting place (station forecourt, outside the travel office)?
Thursday shall be the usual meeting place, usual time :)
No chips?! Aaaargh! The humanity ....
Good practice for the Easter Arrow, that ... hardening your consitution to handle Wetherspoon's grub after 24hrs in the saddle :)No chips?! Aaaargh! The humanity ....
No, there was chips, but they were underdone and not particularly nice.
The burger, as I previously noted, was NASTY...
Soooooo Thursday this week?Possibly, although there's a chance I'll come up on the train, drop off a certain frame and then get the next train back to York ...
Does chip consumption count as 'strenuous'?I couldn't possibly comment O:-)
if i promise that'll try very hard not to be an utter numpty and lose my purse again this time, what are the chances of a pub somewhere reasonably public transportable?
Any other takers for tonight? If not then I may re-considerSurely I don't smell that bad ... I showered this morning 'specially ;)
Scratch that, The Marcia seems to have a bad rep, so I think The Roebuck or Shoulder of Mutton in Appleton Roebuck. Unless someone can suggest a different choice in that area?None of the pubs in Bishopthorpe are much cop, to be honest (neither are the ones in Copmanthorpe, truth be told) - the two pubs in Appleton Roebuck seem to be OK, and within striking distance are the Crown at Bolton Percy (OK if you like Sam Smiths) and the Sun Inn in Colton (which apparently does good food but I've not tried it myself)
Right, I'm knocking off at 4.30 because I've got a pile of eBay stuff to get in the post.
I'll be posting it in the village PO (Copmanthorpe) which will also give me the chance to drop the fruitBook off at home and pick up a set of lights as well. If you're heading out through Bishopthorpe via Acaster Lane then I could meet you at the old railway bridge (where the York-Selby track goes over the road) at a time to be determined and take things from there. If you're heading out along Appleton Lane, I could meet you at the Acaster Malbis/Copmanthorpe crossroads instead.
In which case I'll meet you at the entrance to the Acaster Industrial Estate (turn left at the crossroads and then almost immediate right), which is far safer than waiting on the crossroads proper.Right, I'm knocking off at 4.30 because I've got a pile of eBay stuff to get in the post.

Appleton Road it is....
okey doke, Text updates will be forthcoming.Excellent - now I'm wondering if I've got time to bodge some lights onto the Surly ;D
That looks a good route for us, and we live on that side of York. Are you getting to Appleton Road via Bishopthorpe Road? If so could we meet at the junction with Campleshon Road (the turning for the racecourse)?
If you go all the way (fnarr!) then you'll come out opposite the old Terry's factory, which is in turn just down the road from the Campleshon Road junction; you can continue across the racecourse into Bishopthorpe if you don't want to joust with the traffic on Bish road. That looks a good route for us, and we live on that side of York. Yes, was going to do the riverside route to the racecourse then pick up Bishopthorpe road there (just a bit nicer than fighting with cars). Is where the route comes out on BR good for you?

Plz to photograph the food ;)#
Crusty's doing admin tonight and I'm a grumpy old bag after a run of night shifts. So we aren't coming. Plz to photograph the food ;)Your wish is my command, etc:
I would come out to play, and admire your mudguards! But not on my bike... Which would make a not very social social ride.I saw The Mudguards today ... kudos are definitely due with regard to their fitting, with extra credit for the way in which the front light is mounted on the forks (I described it as 'elegant', which is praise indeed)
Pootling through the wildlife? Sounds messy. Can be, depends on the wildlife :) Although last time we had a beautiful clear sky and aerial escort provided by Bats Unlimited most of the way back to NTR....
Presumably the train to go for from Thirsk is the 22.38
Hi, Im probably not going to make the eve rides again until next spring now but hope to see you guys in daylight again soon :)
FTR the RV would be either The Vale of York (again) or The Old Red House. Now that my mouth has healed up I'm back to full-on eating capability.
Fish finger butties are winning at the mo :)

Be afraid. Be very afraid ;)
Hi, Im probably not going to make the eve rides again until next spring now but hope to see you guys in daylight again soon :)You are a Reverse Vampire (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Reverse%20Vampire) AICMFP.
\o/ current forecast is dry and low winds for Thursday, if it is not too cloudy should be a nice ride back to NTR too. Let me know if you are doing your YRK>NTR ride IZ and I'll ride out to meet you, ride back to NTR, then out to Thirsk. The ride to Northallerton isn't happening this week - can't get the day off :(
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to cry off tonight due to a dodgy tummy (too much info perhaps?) :(Seems to be quite a bit of this about - I had a bout of stomach trouble over the weekend, which is why I wasn't out last Thursday. Took a few days to shift, but otherwise no dramas.

Plus it is a tad blustery in York at the mo and there is a threat of the wet stuff later!
Oh stop crying :-[ :'(
Was it just to be us 3 then?
Contemplating joining in this thurs with mscharly in tow; is it from northallerton? I'm in scar using phone so can't check the routeYes. Finishing in Thirsk.

Thursday's route look something like this:

Some of you might notice the final destination *ahem*. :)
Finishing in Thirsk.causes me to wonder... Is it, perchance, heading for a fine emporium of fish finger sandwiches and assorted other tasty comestibles? If so, I'm in (sans velo)!

Would be brilliant, but I can't. >:(Contemplating joining in this thurs with mscharly in tow; is it from northallerton? I'm in scar using phone so can't check the route
\o/ that would be brilliant if you could!
Given the whitby ride, is there a random run planned for a.n.other evening this week? I could come out to play on Thursday, afaik, but probably ought not to since I kind of need to get packed and do some shopping for the weekend!
Are we looking at a possible Too Many Bikes On The Train scenario here?Given my track record, it seems very unlikely. If the weather's halfway decent I may ride up anyway.
Not if CrinklyUncle does what he was threatening to do on Saturday.....
That was a cracking night out and I actually didn't mind the slightly lumpy bits, maybe I'm getting a little bit better at them :)
Fave moment - Stealth cow
