Sorted, thanks to a rapid delivery from Chain Reaction Cycles. Now does anybody know how those other bits and pieces got in that parcel? O:-)

This will indeed be sad if it happens.
Presumably H has already volunteered to help get rid of any excess stock! :demon:
Has a possible replacement been discussed?
-
Although sad, one must look to beer itself for the answer.
There are other pubs in Denmead.... The Forest of Bere, for example, does good ale plus there is a free fight offer on most nights (2 for the price of 1) if you are looking to finish the evening off. On saying that, the beer is reasonable so that makes it an acceptable alternative.
There is another one nearby The F&H (have forgotten the name) too but have had more than one crap beer experience there.
Oh, a definite 'no' to the White Hart. I still have not recovered from a pint of London Pride and glass of wine costing £9.60 5 years ago .

Let it drop Mark...

No, I can't Andy, I just can't .....

True, dat!

Not sure which one you mean as there's more than one candidate...

Really, you've never mentioned that in all the time I've known you!
We don't have to stick to Denmead, do we? But it would be handy to have one that doubles as Postie's finish control.

I remember! The Harvest Home, down the road from the White Hart.
Beerintheevening (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/14/14732/Harvest_Home/Denmead) has posted some encouraging news (one of a few recent posts from October - new owners apparently)...
Revisited after many years away due to previous owners, what a delight, lovely food, lovely staff lovely atmosphere and good beer, what more could you ask from a good old fashioned country pub, will be a frequent visitor from now on.
I suggest we plan a visit

Sampling The Harvest Home sounds like a fine idea :)
April 5th is my birthday so does anyone fancy a slightly exceptional evening on April 4th at The Fox and Hounds? ;D

sadly kitty master tells me we dont have enough funds :'(

Hold on a minute.
I am only drinking tea at the moment.
That must make an appreciable difference to thr fund.
H
-
so its final the fox and hounds is to close :'( so march the 28th will be the last vist!(its shuts its doors for the last time 4 days later.)
the rides list has been updated and it would be fitting if all pompey riders could come along on the 28th for the last ever ride to the fox and hounds.
-
Duly noted although my current riding and dietary regime may need to be reviewed, especially until Easter. I will be in London for Mon - Wed so won't be able to join you guys this week (14th March). Have fun,

you love cornwell we all know :smug:

Yes, it is a glorious sight in the rear view mirror.
H

H, i'll spare the gory details but 2 exceptional evenings and 4 takeaways in 4 days combined with a 130k ride took its toll before my 20 mile bimble round the new forest. I did recognize that dogging site we passed through in December though.
Posty, if I'm riding on the IOW that weekend may be with Mrs F on the 50k route.
Have fun tonight.

I have a feeling that I won't be able to join you at Cosham but hope to meet up with you on the road and be there for the final approach to the Fox and Hounds guided in by the lights as we climb the little lane (and to be there to drink to its passing, to which end I have taken the following day off!)

The last time I rode a trike I went about 3 feet, ended up in a hedge, and it hurt!
-
Turn the clock back 40 years and Portsmouth was a tricycling hotbed. The Hampshire Road Club, and therefore the local CTC, had something like 10 members who could put their hands on a trike. I recall riding with the chap who is now one of your local BC commissaires when he left a straight road taking a sharp left into the trees. He'd only been riding the trike a few months at that time. CTC clubruns of the time were seldom without a trike in the mix.
-
Stand easy everyone.
Confirmation from the landlady of the Fox & Hounds: whilst the lagers and cider stocks may be running down, they will have enough beer for us all on Wednesday night.
I stressed that we are expecting an evening of exceptional proportions.

I love the way trikes corner. If you lean just right you can balance them nicely on two wheels. Its been a while since I tried it though and it was around the patio at home - I was about eight.
-
I suggest a tear-up around the car park is required on Plodders jalopy on Wednesday night.

Well, given the response here, I think there is only one way to go.
The person who can guess what the news is, (or closest to the truth) can win themselves a pint!

1= priddy has been on one knee and we will have our first pub ride WEDDING!! or
2=lady p is with child and we will have our first pub ride birth!!!! ::-)
NOW DO I GET A PINT!!

That's probably just as well or Hummers may have felt compelled to take on the role of either bridesmaid or midwife.

Hmmm. I had the social in the diary for the 16th - paticularly the beer side of it.
I won't be able to make the 9th.
H
-
I can't make the 9th either I'm afraid - I'm at a wedding.
-
I should be able to make it to the 9th. I don't think I will be able to make it to the 200 the day after though.

I could do either. ;D

Whose on this one ? Its going to be dry .......on the road.

Well Mr H , Mark , Andy and myself set off for a meander amongest the downs. We eventually came upon Denmead, via Butser and such like and found ourselves performing a formation ride past the now defunct Fox and Hounds :'(. But hey thats the past so onwards to our new potential HQ , The Harvester. Thumbs up for the enormous sausage and mash for a £5.00 , beer was pricey , but we won the raffle so all was not lost. However I understand the search continues for our new home.
Oh Moses lead us to the promised land /pub .

It was the Harvest Home. The beer was pricey but the sausages looked excellent value (memories of Swarm_Catchers £9+ deep fried efforts in Seaton came flooding back) and I reckon it's worth sticking with for a while longer.
The other pubs in Demanead are the White Hart (pricey - £9.60 for a pint and large glass of wine in 2007 - don't get me started...), the Forest of Bere (as featured in "A Fist Full of Doom Bar") and the Mead End (aka the Dead End).
I don't mind where we go but do like the idea of a 'regular'.

I will see what can be done.

When you chaps are on these Wednesday Night
Pub Crawls Rides, are you wearing your drinking shoes (ie: ordinary ones that means you can walk with your bike should you get too merry) or normal cleated variety?

Riggers, you complete and utter foot fetishist!!
I never had you down for a toe-jam/jackboot jackoff merchant :o
Nobody answer him....I suspect he is at the peak of his orgasmic stroke waiting for someone to reply "I normally wear open toed sandles so my feat don't get too clammy and remain fresh to the touch..."
Oh, hold on.....
I think I may have just pushed him over the edge...
NURSE! THE SWABS PLEASE!!!

Perhaps I could add what I hope are helpful comments from the eastern regions. As you may know, we also have a noble tradition of pub riding, inspired in no small part by the endeavours of Hummers and chums.
We have found shoes and sandals with SPD cleats are excellent for walking and cycling regardless of the wearer's state of inebriation. One of our number has found that when particularly drunk he can't walk but can ride his bike although I'm not sure how much his choice of footwear has contributed to this dubious talent.
As Hummers himself is given to saying ... HTH.
-
a route of 40miles and three pubs is planned for saturday  oh and there maybe a hill or two ::-)

You see, this is what I like. Banter. Foot fetish indeed. A chap shows concern for his fellow pubber-cyclist and is branded (erroneously*) as a shoe-sniffer.
I am thinking, "You lucky buggers … 3 pubs in 40 miles". I'm just a lonely cyclist with no chums :'( who'd rather enjoy that sort of cycling on a Saturday.
M'wife did buy me a couple of locally-brewed bottle-conditioned beers from Steyning yesterday. One was Ballard's Nyeman's Gold. (http://ballards-brewery.co.uk/) The other one escapes me at present. She and a friend went for a walk to Chanctonbury Ring**.
*Not erogenously Humster.
** Again, nothing there for you Hummers.

Riggers dear chap, if you ever find yourself in mid-Essex let me know. Me and our local yacfers can show you and your pipe any number of top notch pubs. I'm afraid I don't have the archives to hand but I think the most number of pubs we have visited in one evening is 6 and we'll draw a veil over what happened next. My Mother-in-Law and her freezer door still haven't forgiven me.

That's bloody ghastly Hummers. A little part of me thinks "Hmmm, lucky escape there. Glad I don't go to these pubs."
If it helps, the fetish I have is for ladies' bosoms and winkies. Any pics?

another champion night out with the wednesday night wheelers ...almost a full house of regulars and welcome to Fitz on his first ride out with us; hopefully we didn't put him off! Pompey 'Grandad' Phil joined us at the pub to celebrate the arrival of Eva Lily. Marvellous! An exceptional evening was called (again!) and so it was a late ride back via Micks for tea and to marvel at the pricipality laid bofore us like a bejewelled carpet. Blazer was allowed to win the midweek freewheel as he'd done so well on the Hellfire :demon: ;D

Just been catching up and seen this. 'Allowed to win' - Mrs Blazer, take that trophy of the mantlepiece immediately :(
-
might even 'let you win' another one as you've got your shiney new Wessex SR! ;D
-
right its time to put the next rides list together, so roll up and tell me the pubs you would like to vist and do rememeber it is winter!!!
-
My suggestions (and reasons):
Red Lion at Chalton (Real fire for the winter)
Rising Sun at Clanfield (Sells Doombar especially for H :demon:)
Bold Forester at Soberton (Fish and Chips on a Wednesday)

Oddly, the Rising Sun has crept onto my interest list and is under new management to the last time we went there (back in 2007 :o)
Other places could include:
- Bucks Head - Meonstoke
- Golden Lion - Swanwick
- Another one out near Emsworth - what about the Sussex Brewery or Stags Head?
- Old House at Home - Havant
- Is it time to go back to the Swan, Bosham?
H
-
Maybe a thought for the warmer summer evenings, but how about venturing westwards to visit your further-flung friends from round these parts
Milburys? Ship at Owlsebury?

Just one change of management since then?
More like three! The current owner, although a novice, is very keen to improve the pub and to listen to customer feedback. It has some unfamiliar but guest ales.
-
not sure if this is suitable for a winter ride ...but I was out at the weekend and rediscoverd the delights of the climb from Walderton to Up Marden and across to Compton where we could take in the Coach and Horses.

Me and Urban_biker did a recent pub ride to the Ship and are planning another next monday or tuesday.
Let me know if you plan a ride to Owselbury.

What about one of the ones in Rowlands Castle?

The Castle is the only one that comes close to the mark (in my opinion).

I was very lonely. :'(
-
Don't rake it to heart dear chap 8)
I am sure you will be well accompanied outside of half-term.
H
-
I'm so glad the Travellers Rest makes another appearance - Who can forget the giant bird perched on the shoulder of a local, & Hummers hijacking band practice to sing and dance with them? One of the highlights of the pub rides.

That's the first time I've heard Rochford to Paglesham as "Mid-Essex"! :D

I was asleep by 9:00 and in bed by 10 :-[

NO ROOM AT THE INN! the red lion is full saturday, so saturdays ride/planning meeting/dinner will have a mystery tour about it!

How jolly exciting :D
Just as long as there is beer involved - and plenty of it - I don't really care.

i dont think there will be any beer!!

Tequila, it makes you happy :) and other things 8)

I forgot about that :o
H

Thanks everyone for the welcome on my first ride with you last night. I thoroughly enjoyed it - most entertained by the cat-herding at the Southwick roundabout as we tried to decide which route to take. :)
Lowest recorded temperature on my pubometer was -5 C.
Slightly sore head this morning after 'only' 3 pints. Hopefully no-one saw me turn exactly the wrong way out of the pub carpark, only to come back past 3 minutes later, with an "I meant to do that" expression on my face. I manage also to pick a distinctly off-roadish lane back home via Horndean but - hey - the bike and I survived.
I think I drunkenly agreed to do the Watership Down, and probably the Wessex SR too (although can't do the 600 - shame!).
See you on a Wednesday or two in the new year (I'm away next week) - otherwise at the Watership Down (just need to get a pass from The Boss). :D
James
Edit Please tell me you didn't start on tequila after I left. No, I'm not jealous.
-
Hi, I am visiting the AP's over Christams and new year- cannot make 19th but keep me posted on any day rides please. I heard a whisper about a 200K perm
-
We are doing a Denmead - New Forest perm. See http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=64873.0 (http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=64873.0). Alan Rayner in Stubbington is the org for this one.
Hope you can join us.

A small but perfectly formed group ventured as far as The Rising Sun, Clanfield. Bit damp on the way out and damper still on the way home.
Here's to 2013 :)

If I'd known you weren't venturing north of Wetherdown and were ending up at my local, I'd have joined you later in the evening. I hope you tried the Christmas Porter.
-
Sorry about that Plodder - It was a relatively late (6:20pm) decision. I tried the Unwrapped which I think is the Christmas beer. IMHO it was a little too spicy and didn't taste quite right so I switched back to the Ringwood Best - then again I have been a little off par the last couple of days.

Absolutely, it may not be that close to home but it is the closest pub to Plodder Palace and the one I frequent most.

a extra ride this thursday leaving cosham normal time. the red lion awaits the merry wheelmen
-
Is it still planned to visit The George, at Finchdean, on the 9th Jan? Two new
victims recruits planning on riding over from Midhurst and saying hello.
What is the usual pub time?
TIA
-
What is the usual pub time?
20:00 or just before.
And, yes, it's still The George at Finchdean.
You'll be made very welcome.
-
Indeed you will
H
-
would be great to see you and i think after the weekend a lot of soft drinks will be on the table.
-
Can't make this week - my MTB group is doing an 'urban' route from the Royal Oak at Langstone up The Hill, Portchester, Hilsea Lines etc. and back. Seeing as I sort of suggested it, and the start venue is 300m from work, I think I'd better attend!
Hopefully on for next week. :)
James
PS Poor Student was good fun - a good intro to the Audax world I think, with some good company. Although ended up doing the last 50 miles solo (I didn't deliberately drop the group, just looked round and I was alone)! Not too sure about the final stretch back into Oxford on the dual carriageway A420 at night - luckily only about 3/4 mile.
-
Fine job sir
May see you on the 16th for that Wednesday adventure.

For those thinking of joining us for the first time but not used to riding at night, in a group, etc, etc, there will be a much slower paced, shorter, flatter ride to the Rising sun on the 16th Jan. We'll join the normal bunch at the pub. Might be a good intro for wives/girlfriends/friends to give it a try. Meet at Cosham library with everyone else leaving at 6:20 as normal.
-
Nice to meet you all last night, thanks for making us so welcome. Hoping work scheduling allows me to get to some of the other meet ups.
-
Good to meet you guys too, and thanks for lighting a path through the water to Finchdean for us.
-
Yes, a jolly meet up indeed
Next week is Bulgarian night and I for one am keen to explore the opportunities to express myself in any of the following ways:
H
-
I'm thinking Bulgarian man's clothes look very cycle friendly, especially with the forecast snow. Not sure the attire for the ladies will be as practical.....plenty of opportunity for skirts wrapping around chains. I might have to have a carefull think.
-
I have just noticed the ' shoes ->' bit. Who would have guessed!
H
-
H, I thought that the picture second from the left was of you modelling the Tutti Pole uniform. Or are my aging eyes failing me?
-
They are in fact all pictures of H, taken at various 'parties' he has attended over the years. He has simply photoshopped the faces.
-
Thank you for the clarification. Now I think about it, I realise how right you are!
Wednesday will be a experience...

I've just been into the Rising Sun and learned that the boss has decided to postpone the Bulgarian evening to a Wednesday later in the spring. :(

I do hope so....I've got newcomers coming along and have a nice easy, flat (ish) trip planned.
By the way plodder, is Mrs Plodder still thinking of joining us??

She would rather wait until it's a bit lighter, so no, not this week and learning that the Bulgarian evening has been postponed she has now made other plans.

Shame. I look forward to seeing her in the spring then.

Can't make this week - frozen mud beckons instead.

I suspect you found plenty!

Yesh, we certainly did - and nearly all frozen. A great ride on twinkly frosty crispy tracks around Rake (cycling from the Flying Bull - very friendly quiet pub). Damned cold though -the pubometer went down to -5.2oC
Hoping to join the WNPPR team next week.
J

Good man
H
-
advance warning the next social will take place on saturday april 20th, a eveing tour of the isle of wight is being planned.
meeting at the ferry port at about 4pm.
-
Given the - ahem - inclement weather, are there still plans to ride tomorrow? Scrolling back through the forum, I think the plan was to end up at Funtington.
James
-
that is the plan, fox and hounds at funington. might be a main road bash!!!
-
We rode out on the back road to Funtingdon on Sunday and it was all clear.
H
-
I think a suitable and respectful time of mourning has passed since the closing of the Fox & Hounds in Denmead and hence the loss of the WNPR's spiritual home. I am concerned we have no spiritual anchor and no monthly beacon of salvation; who knows what could happen if we continue in this vein. Therefore before I suggest we claim a new home as our own and cable lock oursleves to it
Therfore brother and sisters of the wheel I suggest the Rising Sun in Clanifield should be elevated to it's special role:
1. it is nestled into the bosom of the South Downs ...our happy hunting ground
2. the beer is good
3. the luxury hot chocolate is good when you are off item 2
4. the locals are friendly and understanding of our needs
5. the beer is good
6. we will have international links with Bulgaria
7. it only a shoert ride to a fine Indian restaurant and plodder's for afters
8. the beer is good
all thoser in favour say aye ....or otherwise
-
While accepting its undoubted assets, not to mention its proximity to the fine Mela restaurant and Chez Plodder, I would suggest that we consider the public house at the sign of The Castle in Rowlands Castle.
I can't comment on the hot chocolate and our relations with Eastern Europe may be shallower than at the Rising Sun but the beer is good, there is an Indian Restaurant nearby (admittedly as yet untested by the WNPP crew), the beer is good, as is the food and it is near adjacent to a railway station should the need arise.
Perhaps we need a back-to-back comparison...
-
Perhaps we need a back-to-back comparison...
-
My view is that The Castle is OK but pales in comparison to the newly landlorded Rising Sun.
The Castle:
1. it is nestled into the bosom of the South Downs ...our happy hunting ground - TRUE
2. the beer is good - BUT PRICEY
3. the luxury hot chocolate is good when you are off item 2 - I DOUBT THAT
4. the locals are friendly and understanding of our needs - I DOUBT THAT VERY MUCH
5. the beer is good - BUT PRICEY
6. we will have international links with Bulgaria - IN 6 YEARS, I AM YET TO SEE A SMILE FROM THE BARMAID THAT ISN'T WIND RELATED
7. it only a shoert ride to a fine Indian restaurant and plodder's for afters - NOT APPLICABLE
8. the beer is good - BUT PRICEY
On that count alone (plus the chance of going back to Plodders for a whisky and nude Bulgarian-style dancing caper), The Rising Sun gets my vote for outstanding entertainment choices.
Plus the new landlord seems a nice chap.
H
-
never been a fan of the castle but i do like the one at finchdean  but i am in the clanfield camp at this time or maybe a move to meonstoke :demon:
-
Plodder, I was with you in The Castle camp, but we failed. Lovedean was also a well argued suggestion, but the ayes went to Clanfield for now.
-
Indeed.
There are advantages to the Lovedean option but it was thought of the two, the Rising Sun was friendlier and more alligned to our exacting needs. 8)

Well so long as it does food. Last night, good ride, but to turn up at the Pub post an electrical fire, therefore no food!!! . So Scampi fries to the rescue . Pity they couldn't do anything about Chill's so called hot chocolate :D
-
To be fair a) it was the barmaids first night b) it was a Wednesday, c) they had some sort of kitchen incident, d) there was a dog involved and finally e) some of us weren't drinking. O:-)
H
-
Just a quick heads up on the beginners paced rides over the next few weeks....
These are for those that want to try out the Wed night pub rides - we meet with the faster riders at the pub.
The plan for these rides is to do a much shorter and slower ride than normal, with as few hills as possible. Pace approx 10-11 mph (ish)
20th Feb - Bold Forester - Soberton Heath
20th Mar - Woodmancote Arms - Woodmancote
All other weeks will still also feature the pub paced alternative ride (15-18 miles to pub at around 12-13mph & moderate hills)
It's always good to see new faces - so tell your friends
-
Hello - thought I should post so you all know I'm still here!
Illness / work and then holiday have precluded me from joining in the fun and games . Looking at the sky tonight I guess I missed a good 'un?
I'm on holiday so hope to be out on 6th March but am signed up for Plodder's 100 in any event.
Cheers

Blazer? Hmm, the name sounds vaguely familiar...
Ah, yes, that's because we were talking about you yesterday. Well, as you weren't there to defend yourself, it would be rude not to, wouldn't it? :demon:

Alas I DNS'd again - I was half way through a 4.75 hour drive back from Aberystwyth. I did consider getting on the bike when I got back, just to clear my head. But I ddn't.
As I end up going to Aber fairly regularly, I have been researching doing a DIY or what perms are around there - but the latter seem to be on the long side! Also yesterday the mountain road across from Rhayader still had sheet ice - i.e. frozen run-off from the moors - across it in several sections, so definitely not a good time to be cycling there at the moment!
Hopefully can join the group next week.
James
-
James, if you are up in Welsh Wales regularly, I can recommend the Bryan Chapman 600.
There is also the Brevet Cymru (400) and, if it is still being run, the Elenith (300).

Can't make this week, as Shedfield's just a bit too far NW for me.
Yes, call me a girl's blouse. ;)

Oops - got me dates wrong. Oh well - MTBing from Rowlands Castle now (unless the MTB crowd cry off...).
So I might stretch to Shedfield next week!
Woodmancote Arms in a couple (or so) of weeks will be fun. Definitely different (run by a couple of very nice boys) since it changed hands and has been done up. Bling anyone?

Just a word of caution Southwick Hill was piled high with snow either side at certain junctions , so the other lesser lanes will probably be quite hazardous.

It will probably be better the further westwards you go, nothing round my way at all.

Hello Wednesday Nighters.
Does anyone have a spare 'something' that will act as a cable clamp for my rear brake (rx100). After my spoke broke, I loosened the back brake to get round France and I now realise I did not tighten it back up and have "lost it". Oh dear :'(
Just looking for short-term loan to get me round the Wessex delights this weekend.
-
I'm not out on Wednesday but I have a replacement brake that might fit.
SMS to follow!

Cheers H - not only was it in the garage of plenty but we found it after only looking in three boxes.
It had the distinct impression of (some sort of) order ???
Back on the road again - well, once I've reattached the brakes and true'd the wheel.

Have we dried out yet? Hummers - maybe Wednesday night was a taster of your weekend ???
I'm good for next week and would recommend a curry at The Midnight Tandoori in Pompey if we feel peckish on the way home:

Can't wait to see what the place looks like in sunlight and without a covering of frost.

We had a very warm reception last time. Particularly ChillMoister!

For the Pompey lads I believe so.
I'll be ploughing my lonely furrow from Andover and thru Winchester.

Hello?
Who is this?
And what have you done with my stout wheelman, Mr Whitehead? ???
H
-
What's the
itinner itniierr route for the ride tomorrow?
I may not be able to make the start, as I might have to stay in until 1800 for the Virgin man (I'm sure there's a joke somewhere there), so I may have to meet up en route.
I vaguely remember Cosham -> Victoria (West Marden) -> ? ->Stoughton -> ? -> Westbourne.
I'll txt Hummers if I'm not going to make Cosham by the usual start time.
James
-
James, a slight change of plan...
We are leaving the library at 6:20 (as normal) and riding out to the Hare & Hounds at Stoughton for around 8pm.
We will only be stopping for a quick one two three then be going to the Spice Cottage at Westbourne for around 9pm.
Come and join us m'dear. :smug:
H
-
Sounds good. ;D
-
You bastards, you complete bastards, we've been sat in the Castle waiting for you.
I suppose at least this time you have the excuse that you did publish a revised itinerary before you set off rather than just buggering off before I arrived.
Bastards.
>:(
-
<pencilled in diary>
I know I don't get as often as I should (aka "at all"). But Mrs P and the clan are off on holiday soon and I'll be unsupervised. If the weather's nice, the bike's ready, I don't chicken out, etc, - then there's a fair to middling chance that I may join you for the Hambledon one. Or at least meet you there (I'm jiggered if I'm riding to Pompey then to Hambledon and then back home again). Work may scupper this very loose commitment but, we'll see.

Oh dear :-[
The change of plan was my suggestion on account of the four pubs before going for a curry was going to be a beer too far. I didn't know you were meeting us at the Castle.
H
-
It was a nightmare, sat in a pub with only beer to drink...
...and Vernon to talk to.
-
its time for me to put the next rides list together, so let me know any pubs you would like to vist. also so a couple of riders have asked about sunday morning rides so we may try some of these leaving about 8am back before 1pm with a cafe stop on route.
-
Make sure the Ship Inn at Owslebury stays on your list, so I can have an excuse to cycle out there.

The further west the more likely I am to join in. :P

Some are worthy of a revisit: The Wheatsheaf (Shedfield) and The Horse & Groom (East Ashling).
What about The Harrow (Steep), The 3 Horseshoes (Elsted), an autumnal return to The Gribble (Oving), The Coach & Horses (Compton).
<Edit> Just saw the previous post</Edit>

Hi, thanks Postie.
How about the Woodmancote again? The white swan at Bosham-ish was ok iirc. Was it the Bricklayers Arms or something out west-ish Swanmore way? The Hampshire Bowman is closer than I thought so could squeeze that in whilst the summer nights are ok? Shedfield would be fun and agree with H below.
How about a South Harting stop?
Thanks again Postie, all much appreciated.

Ride list looks good. Looking forward to the 28th, an opportunity to celebrate.
Looking at the Aug social, as it could well be my last social as a 'single' man, I would love to be able to make it. However, as it is currently booked in for the day before the wedding I will have family down and will be unable to make it. Is there any chance at all it could be brought forward a bit so I can make it?

Yes Chill told me this morning. Last night was the last of the MTB eve rides as its getting dark now . So hence me checking out the dates of the Wed eve rides . I heard Steep was abit of a hoot !!!
-
Is the meeting time still 18:20?
-
Hi HorTors,
We generally leave sharpish at 18:20 and generally meet at around 18:00. If you turn up at 18:20 you may find we have all gone already. :-\
Come along; there are two groups - a fast group (which involves a tear up to the pub) and a pub-paced group who just want to get to the pub by 8pm.
H
-
Thanks Hummers,
I can't make today but I'll certainly be there in the future.

I believe that it's The Bushmakers at Upham, although I can't make it tonight.
-
Just up the road from you Kieran
H
-
Yep its can do for me
-
Went with the pub group and glad I did , to many schisms in the fast group they'll be trouble ahead. Anyway after an initial disappointment that the pub waiting time for food was up to an hour and there was no where to sit ( all reserved) , it turned out to be great eve as they let us sit down as the reservations hadn't turned up and we could have bar snacks in under 1/2 hr. So spam fitter and chips it was. Have to say chips were shite but I was hungry.
Rather nippy out down to 5c
-
Yes, there is a) a fast group, b) a faster group c) a faster still group and d) Arunas ;D
I am onto it.
H
-
Is it still the Horse and Groom at East Ashling next wed? It's close enough to make it doable from Midhurst if it is.
-
At less than £3 a pint, it certainly is

I'm planning to join the posse this week. Would be rude not to, as Finchdean is - well - just up the road.
J

Hooray!
H
-
It now looks like I'll be in Lakeside Shopping Centre tomorrow afternoon until around 1700 - seeing Santa. Yes, really. Yes, it's work. ::-)
Therefore unlikely to make it for tomorrow's ride. Unless I turn up and make it of course! I might just pedal out to the pub if running late.
Have a good ride.

Yo Ho Ho....
Still, all grist to the mill for a Friday pass

What, no ride next week?
PS Will you be out tomorrow?

It sounds like 2014 may bring the option of a return to the Fox and Hounds. By the end of January it should be owned by a local co-operative.
Here is the link in case anyone wants to support it via a donation or an investment.

I think St Malo will be etched in our( pompey) cycling lore. I'm nipping over for a w/end on March 15th , then again with the Faccombes in Sept, doing the same trip , St Malo to Caen !! Its the proximity of the port and the overnight ferry. Got to bring back some decent scrumpy this time I've scoured around here and there is nothing I can find .
I'll be there on the 26th to count you all out ....
-
Please cross The Izaak Walton off the pub list:
from http://www.izaakwalton.biz "Dave and Ashley McGeorge will ensure a warm welcome at the Izaak Walton, a delightful pub in the heart of the historic and picturesque village of East Meon."
They didn't tonight! The welcome was distinctly frosty:

The Wheatsheaf, oh dear... Best check the diary for Thursday.
Anyone on holiday so we have a random link to fake tan 8)
-
I think Marcia had some 'bronzing cream' last time. Oddly, she didn't ask for it back.
H
-
Splendid list.
See you at the Wheatsheaf. The only questions is, "Do I ride past it on my way from work and join you at Cosham for a ride, or do I just wait there for you to arrive?"
If I were Hummers the answer would be obvious. :demon:
But I'm not, so...
-
Well that was a laugh ended up in SAMs ( mistook it for the Wheatsheaf , I have valid reasons for that) Stumbled upon a folk shindig with dancing and singing etc , tried to get the rest of them out of the wheatsheaf , but NO NO NO cheap beer prevailed. So mountain mohammed etc I went to Wheatsheaf. But managed to get Hummers to join me for a swift 1/2 back in SAMS( wasn't hard)
There in we stormed the floor with our folk dancing and enjoyed the bon homie of our fellow folkies..
Although I think Hummers may have stepped over the line (see what i did there ;-) ) with one of them regarding a mutual aquaintence
So June 18 th for the next gig?
-
Yes, a good night

What time did we tell them last Wednesday for the Woodmancote? Was it 7:30?
That seems a bit late but I was a bit woozy when we left.
H
-
Yes 7-30pm at the pub or 6pm from cosham then curry about 9-30pm. People will be welcome to eat at the pub if they wish.

Lest we forget, the curry house does not serve alcohol and last time we had to supply our own.
Oh dear.

Is this an 'expected' opening date......again?
H
It's on the internet (http://foxandhounds-pub.co.uk/ (http://foxandhounds-pub.co.uk/)), so it must be true! Mustn't it?
-
Steve and Angie, were they the landlord and landlady there before?
H
-
No - they are a new Landlord, Landlady.
The Fox and Hounds is now fully open as a community owned pub so well worth supporting.
I've not been there yet so I can't review. Judging by the menu its probably gone a bit more upmarket. Interior has been totally re-vamped and re-fitted.
Lets hope its not £10 a pint ;)
-
Just a reminder that tonight is our Christmas Social and we will be meeting at the library for 6pm with a shortish ride to the Woodmancote followed by a curry at the Spice Cottages, Westbourne, around 9:30.

 to the IOW and Dorset night runs- I'm not doing the Dun Run (well, not on that night and not that way round....) but a trip to the caulkheads should be fun, and the Dorset night run's a good 'un.
I keep forgetting to start a thread for it over here, but I'm running a round-the-Island night ride on May 29. Midnight ferry to Fishbourne from the Harbour, then clockwise round, with more of the A-roads than the Randonnee so we see more of the coast. There will be an alfresco self-catered halfway at Blackgang (retail stop at Ryde Tesco), and breakfast in Ryde, probably the Wetherspoons. Thread on the other place here (http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/night-ride-around-the-coast-2015-may-29.172830/).

The IoW ride last year was a blinder -- I think I got home around 3:30am :demon:
The Dorset Ghost is a great ride too; not quite as hilly as the normal DC but is still a really nice route on main roads that are devoid of traffic (for a change).
Sadly I can't make the 29th as it is my 600k.

thanks Postie ...a fine list to lead us into Summer ...bring on those balmy nights ....and Dave reenacting Spartacus ;D

If the weather's nice and work's not spilling over, I might meet you at the pub on the 27th. What time do you tend to arrive?
-
Eightish normally which means any time from 8:00:-8:30.
H
-
Oh, man. You're not going to believe this - I couldn't find the bloody pub. I'll take a map rather than do it from memory next time. And, looking at the map now - I was practically there; if I'd kept going across the crossroads in Shedfield, I'd have got there. Bugger.
Hey ho. It was a nice evening for a ride.
-
Buggeration!
We will be that way again.

Still on for Hawkley tomorrow? I might make the effort to join you.
Yup - The Hawkley Inn. A fine pub too.
H
-
It's been a while but I may be joining you this Wednesday. Is Bosham still the destination?
-
I believe so.
Sadly, I will not be with you this week.
H
-
Missing my birthday ride Hummers....I may never forgive you.
Tsk tsk!
-
Thought the combined birthday rides was next week, confused
-
It is actually my birthday tomorrow, so I didn't see any reason to postpone it a week. Besides I prefer an exceptional evening with an easy ride back.
Also it simply means that we get to celebrate 2 weeks in a row....nothing wrong with that in my book.
Although next week I'll be taking it easy, what with my final PBP Qualification attempt a couple of days after.
