Stockbroker sacked after tweeting: 'Think I just hit a cyclist. But I'm late for work so had to drive off lol' - The Daily Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11327788/Motorist-in-crash-with-cyclist-tweets-Im-late-for-work-so-had-to-drive-off.html)
I guess he didn't follow Emma Way's tribulations when she was in the news

Let's be clear - there's no evidence that he hit anyone. The Twitter Angry Cyclist Pitchfork Mob strikes again. While I don't think it was remotely funny, I think sacking the guy is a massive overreaction, and I'm sure this'll go to a tribunal pretty quickly.
-
Nope, Bringing the company into disrepute, he'd also posted some nasty racist stuff, jokes about rape and "selling vaseline outside schools" which I don't, even.

If you pretend to do something like this as a form of macho attention-seeking, you deserve everythinbg you get.
Your so-called "Pitchfork Mob" are not the bad guys here.
-
As he's been described as a 'graduate' I assume he's fairly new to the company, so no possibility of tribunal.

Hargreaves Lansdown is a company that depends on being seen as trustworthy. They want people to trust them with their life savings. One of their directors appears on BBC breakfast etc, and so forth. I am not surprised they sacked him; why should they tolerate an employee who damages their good name?

I wouldn't bank on that.
If he started this September, he's probably still in his probationary period so I agree with you.
He might have started on last September's graduate entry though, and would be well past the point where he could take them to a tribunal over an unfair dismissal.

Nope.
Minimum of two years' service to claim unfair dismissal on grounds other than discrimination (race, sex, disability etc) and victimisation for union membership. Allowing people to claim after just 12 months' service harms the flexibility of the workforce and damages the labour market, or some such ((TM) A Tory).
-
Aah okay, I thought it went with the probationary period. Now I know better.
-
Well at least he's learned that actions have consequences. Prat.

Fund Manager at the same firm.
-
Has that been brought to the attention of his employers?
[Edit] Ah yes. I see it has. I wonder whether he'll be sacked.

Swap "cyclist" for black, gay, muslim, taffy ... etc ... and he'd be up before a judge.
<sigh>

@MarkyMarkWalter may be a fake account.

From memory it was set up before 2010.
Seems well planned to set up a fake account over 5 years ago, just waiting for this moment?

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it... (that's hit and run red light jumping tweeters and cyberbullies alike)

"Like 10 mph"? Or like 15 or maybe 20?-

Maybe she could take over Top Gear.

Such a pleasant personality portrayed in 140 characters or fewer.

If a fxxxxxx cyclist is riding outside of the cycle lane and wobbling, my wing mirror will of course knock him off
-
Keeping digging, dear. Stop at around two metres...

These people serve on juries.

The driver who knocked me off a few years back was doing like 15 mph at the time of collision, and he said in court that he drove off because he saw me get up so I must have been ok. He was convicted.

And she's gone...

Mind you looking at her (now ex-) handle, I suspect she has form there as well. I wonder how many Twitter accounts she's had deleted?

These people serve on juries.
These people are also convicted by juries.

And have a greater probability of appearing before juries rather than in them. Needs to be higher, though.

Wow - it would be nice to think she's learnt something but I suspect anyone dumb enough to tweet that they've committed a crime will be too dumb to learn from this sort of mistake.
Kudos to both H&M and the police for following this up.
