All the boxes-that-beep have been charged and refitted, the bottles filled and the saddle bag packed.... and he's off!
-
Excellent work! But only 6 hours between the end of one day and the start of the next...
-
I suspect that there wil be many days such as yesterday when he puts in overtime to maintain his schedule
-
Well done Crinkly Lion
Go Steve
-
Yesterday looked like an effort.
Hopefully today offers some jolly cycling for Mr Abrahams.

It's a very nice morning in the Vale of York, with sunshine and a very light breeze. Not too warm but good cycling conditions.
Well done , Crinkly for hosting Steve, especially as it's schooltime .
Vote for Steve

Fantastic effort yesterday...looking forward to see if he'll match the distance again today ;D
-
Well done Crinkles.
Obviously Steve will be slow to start this morning, untill he has eaten some of the cake mountain ;D
GO STEVE
-
Well done Crinkly Lion! Should be a medal* for the hosts - having heard at first hand what is being done way beyond the call of duty, when Steve's been down our way...
* Featuring a Mug of Tea [argent], Cake [sable], on an azure ground, with Sausage [rampant] and a Celtic Knot of wiring.

Go Steve!

There was no cake for the saddlebag.... well, I only found out yesterday that he was coming! So, just half a dozen sossidges, half a pound of mousetrap and some flapjack that I made while we were watching the tracker working out which was he'd come in :D
Steve's plan was always for his visit here to be a real flyer, so there was less to do than usual and I got a good three hours sleep before waking up to get the coffee on and then another hour or so once he was on his way before it was time to get Cubs and me ready for school.
Deano probably deserves the medal, mind, having come down from Darlo so that he could ride out to meet TG and guide him in. We sat watching the tracker and predicting routes until that 'It's going to be Wiggy Road!' moment and then he nipped out to find TG, rode back here and ran a rag over the bike etc before setting off to try and charm his way onto the very last train north (East Coast Virgin) without a bike reservation or face the prospect of a bit of a ride home before going to work today. Fortunately the charm worked!

Deano is especially charming! :)
And a good man

The hosts should be listed on the Wikipedia page.

Deano as guide and bike valet, Crinkles as host and provision supplier. Fantastic. I know TG deserves it, but you two are wonderful.
Go HOSTS!
Go STEVE!

Difficult to think of a better combo. Nice one.
-
Well done Crinkly
-
Well done the both of you!
Worried about Steve keeping up this kind of effort. Sooner or later the Sandman cometh.
-
Yes, you would be hard pushed to find a better qualified team for the job.
Well done both!
-
No need to worry about Steve. He is an experienced endurance cyclist and knows his body and capabilities well. He also knows where the audax shelters of the UK are, the best value eateries, the road network like the back of his hand and, of course, he has the cyclist's nous.
There is also of course the AUK and YACF national support network - let's face it, who here wouldn't respond to a 'distress' call?
He'll be fine, just fine.
-
One thing I have learned about Steve is that he knows what he's doing.
-
The sign he can get to sleep so quick is a that he’s not flooded with adrenaline.
Which means he’s not doing anything over-strenuous for his ability.
Just a little tiredness after a leisurely day’s cycling. ;)
-
Our Dunmow [actually Takeley] host Alex, being a 12/24 enduro rider [and a Paramedic too], took a close interest in Steve's sleep patterns: straight into deep, quality REM sleep and little else. He reckons a few hours like that every night should be plenty - not like us lightweights who need 8 hours plus.
-
Perhaps TG is the reincarnation of MT! :o
-
He's motoring today - 108 miles in just under 7hrs. With the under-estimation of the tracker, he's almost certainly done a few more.
GO STEVE

And heading for one of his favourite eateries by the look of it.

Yes, That place in Spalding again (Can't remember its name).
Starting to look like another good day is on the cards. Who-ho!
-
Yesterday the average speed took a big hit when Steve went into the edge of Leicester, I think. Perhaps worth not doing that again!
-
Deano is especially charming! :)

Oi Oi!
Yer in there Deano!

Looks like a +200 miles day is on the cards and not too late a finish which is a good sign of things to come.

Yes, That place in Spalding again (Can't remember its name).
I'm considering riding over there at the weekend.
A pilgrimage, if you will.
(The Farm Cafe, Fleet Hargate. Can't believe this (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g616267-d4311725-r248761862-Farm_Shop_Resturant-Holbeach_Lincolnshire_England.html#REVIEWS)review- must have been following a TG visit and he'd cleaned 'em out.)
-
Looks to be really shifting along last hour or so---speeds 18-20mph; is this a gravitational pull exerted by MK base or is Steve `letting Genie out of bottle` today?

Visited the Fleet Hargate cafe on one of Steve and RichForrest's September 600s. Strange place. The only place in recent memory that I've seen selling Golliwogs!
(I had one of their huge breakfasts but that didn't turn out well for me - not through any fault of theirs I should add - my digestive system shut down and I eventually chucked it (and everything else I'd eaten that day) up in Biggleswade around tea time ).

Or is it the gravitational pull of Marsh Gibbon?

Tailwind, according to the forecast.
Steve has pulled a blinder these last two days. Mostly tailwind yesterday and partly tailwind today.
-
Good. Steve needs to up his average speed to get the mileage he needs within a reasonable time.
-
Yep, I'd say those reviews of the Famous Farm Cafe are pretty accurate. The kitchen , food and associated buildings could be best improved by a good dose of bulldozer.

'On one bumcheek' wind.
-
Down here, the weather is perfect cycling conditions. I played football at lunchtime, it wasn't remotely character building.
-
Beautiful day in Dorset as well.
It looks like another big day today. Although yesterday was only the 4th biggest distance. The top 3 were all in January - the longest to date was the return trip from Hoppo's, 2nd longest getting up there, and 3rd longest New Year's Day. All soon to be eclipsed we hope
-
Already up to the 170 mile mark  :o
-
Spiffing in NE Londonton too. I am celebrating the fine weather by listening to loud rock'n'roll with the blinds drawn
-
Warmer weather and longer days helps to increase the average speed. I'm not doing anything like Steve's mileage but I've been doing roughly the same amount each month and in the last couple of rides I've felt my speed, power, and general well-being improving. As its not down to the training I put it down to climate.
(And the same thing happens in reverse in November, when some b*&*er goes round and makes all the hills steeper)
All the same I'm still glad that Steve is proving his theory correct - that he will speed up as the weather improves. And at 180 miles before it gets dark, all I can repeat is:
Go Steve!!!!
-
Perhaps TG is the reincarnation of MT! :o
Well, he's certainly not for turning.
Excellent work, host and maintenance wallah!
It has indeed been a lovely day. I went out this morning with the Southend Municipal Tuesday Group and my 17.49 miles came in at an average speed to 11mph - over 20% up on my recent averages! :D :D I haven'd done that for a while. Hopefully some of my alacrity will find its way to Steve. A 20% increase for him will take him up to about 18mph.
-
Just rolled in from work.
Great tracker reading so far today
He's had a good day
Keep on keeping on Steve!
-
Well done you two, and at very short notice in term time too!
-
There's a big difference between Steve's and Kurt's tracker miles today at this stage:
Steve: 197
Kurt: 110
The time difference is only 4 hours - until the end of this month.
-
He went through March today. Is that the first time this month?
-
207 estimated miles on tracker and nearly at MK---excellent day riding
-
213 now = upwards of 220 in real world.
-

There is! Kurts mileages have often been much more than the tracker recently though. I think sometimes the tracker doesn't catch the start.
-
222.9.
-
Excellent stuff ;D
-
... and 16.5 mph according to Strava, too.
Great ride today!
-
Great stuff. Longer distances and higher speeds, just like Steve expected.
-
Yet another thumb in the eye for the few negative posters on Steve's threads.
Long live the king! Long live the king! Long live the king!

I read these posts every day and every day I don't know what to say, glad to see Steve is upping his mileage going into better weather. I wish him well going forward and well done to all hosts/fettlers et al. bloody good work all round. Can't wait for the summer to start proper.
-
Chapeau!
-
358.7k @26.5 kph. I've never managed anything like that. Me hat's off.
Oh for a nice long, sunny spring and a gentle summer & autumn. Then we'll see some stuff.
-
Absolutely awesome. Now we need to ensure he gets consistently good weather for the rest of the year
-
Very close to the same distance as yesterday, but 1000m less climbing.
Did Steve's route today avoid some significantly lumpy bits, or is it just Strava/Garmin giving inaccurate climbing figures?

It was hillier yesterday. He went up the A5, A426, skirted Leicester and then Melton / Granthamish before hitting the flatlands. Today he stuck to the flatlands.

Brilliant
