Title: [HAMR] 23rd March - Day 82:
Post by: Polar Bear on 23 March, 2015, 05:35:00 am
No sign of trackers yet but I'm sure Steve will be up and about.  My first 'early' of the year and I'm struggling.

More power to you Steve - fill yer boots with miles.

He's off. Tracker fired up at approx 05:50. It's cold and frosty out there atm (Nottingham) but I reckon it's gonna warm up to be a lovely day.

Go Steve

He seems to have the bit between his teeth this morning. 11 miles done by 6.17 and his average speeds at each track point all well above 14mph, bar one.

Good luck Steve!

It has collapsed under the weight of Steve's miles.  81 consecutive 200km days, 55 of which have been converted to 300km.  Would be 217 AUK points if they were registered as DIYs.  He's done more 300km days in 2015 than I have in my lifetime despite completing my 10th SR series last year.

He's done more <Insert Almost Any Cycling Stat of your choosing here> in 2015 than I've done in my lifetime I think.

OK, I've cycled more miles in my lifetime than he has in 2015....but I expect I won't be able to say that by Autumn.

If Steve succeeds in this amazing challenge then he will have done the equivalent of about 100 PBPs back to back *.  I simply can't get my head around that.

* I had to check that because it seemed too crazy...but it's correct.  PBP, 100 times, one after the other, without a day off.  F***ing ridiculous (and I shall be using this knowledge as a PBP motivator on my 4th day).

I don't think so.

He hasn't done fewer than me.

I worked this out in my head the other day.  (The back to back PBP thing)

Truly astonishing.  Allez Steve

He has already done 21 PBPs in 81 days.  If my sums are right that's 90 hours for each PBP equivalent with a 4 hour break in between.   Staggering

He will need to eat kCalories equivalent to FIVE times his own weight in chocolate.

Don't forget when doing PBP comparisons - Steve is currently behind the overall average daily distance required. By the end of the year, he needs to have done all of his consecutive PBPs at close to vedette or randonneur pace.

When "we" start putting Steves acheivements in contexts like this, it really is quite scary.

Agreed - in extremely poor taste and I hope the mods will consider removing it.

Another comparison.

Yesterday, Steve passed the 25,000km point. I know the rules are slightly different, but the Brevet 25,000 (http://www.aukweb.net/results/fame/b25000/) is probably the hardest of the official AUK awards and has only been achieved by a select few. So hard in fact, that people are given six years in which to complete it. Steve has managed the equivalent in less than three months.

Yes, but as I read the OYTT comparison chart, at day 82 Godwin's average speed was quite a bit less than Steve's is now. Steve's strategy seems to be to roughly follow Godwin's curve but do it better, whereas Tarzan's looks to be to keeping as close to the required average as possible throughout the year. Unless of course he's planning to accelerate significantly come summer.

Wa-hoo...with the benefit of the mended tracker, Steve looks to be having a blinding day . 120 miles up in 9 hours.

I just got to the junction in time to see him and shout a greeting, but only just managed unsheath my camera and grab a snap  :D :

By the time I put the camera away and got back on the bike, he was over 100 yards away - I dashed off to follow him along the bypass in case he stopped at the petrol station a couple of miles further on for a coffee again. I reeled him in to about 50 yds in the first mile, but as this was the first time on the bike since surgery, I couldn't maintain the pace - he was 200yds ahead by the time he passed the petol station and headed across the roundabout towards Ely.

Go Steve!

197 miles on the tracker and still a few to go, so another good day in the saddle.  Anything over 210 miles knocks the average to go down.

Well done Steve !!

Top Work, Steve!

It doesn't need to get harder next week. Steve is currently slightly ahead of his stretch goal. He is more than 800 miles ahead of his lower target pace. If he sticks to his current pace for the next month that'd still keep him well ahead of the lower target.

his lower target for April is 6603 or 220 per day which he ought to do.  800 miles currently ahead is less than 4 days
have a good day Steve
