Title: Medical Certificate?
Post by: BECC Bob on 07 August, 2015, 02:49:26 pm
I remember needing to fabricate on for an earlier PBP, but I can't find any mention this time.
Also got turned away from Duo Normand, for not having a medical cert, a couple of years ago.
So do we not need one this time?
Thanks.

no doubt an ancien will be along in a minute with chapter and verse but I recall the Frenchies were being perplexed by perfectly legit medical certificates supplied by our good friends from Greece, Albania, Russia, China, India etc in some sort of Johnny Foreigner language and in some sort of strange lettering, so they just gave up.

It was a silly idea anyway, Danial never wanted one for LEL.

Checked here?

Probably the reason why there appears to be no worrying about having to provide one.

Also, I assume in all your communication with the PBP folk that a request for one has not been mentioned.

I would be more worried about failing the bike check for having the wrong coloured valve caps.

Medical certificate required for PBP until 2003, but not since. It was required when you entered in June, not when you turned up in Paris.

1001 Miglia Italia required one in 2012. Mine was signed by Chris Boardman.

It probably has something to do with the introduction of a time limit. It can now never be a race.

The Medical Certificate from my GP in 1999 stated "Physically fit." But then he added "Cannot vouch for his state of mind."

Oh how I laughed.

Nyet. Was required 2007 & 2011. Not required this year because med cert is now required for FFCT membership. Uncertified Johnny Furriners may croak as they please, no skin off.

I may have mis-remembered 2007, but definitely not required in 2011

This medical certificate is just another firmly grounded tradition here. The goal of the thing is to protect the organizer from any catastropha that might happen. In case you die from a heart attack during PBP, they don't want your family to be able to sue the organizer. So, as long as you show up a piece of paper that looks like a medical certificate, even a grossly counterfeited one, no one will ask any question. The volunteers are not legally competent for assessing the validity of a certificate.
