Title: 500 on a 600
Post by: jhob on 21 May, 2016, 08:40:00 am
I've never had any problems with my 500 resetting or scrambling a recorded route on shorter distances (350k), as many 800 users have reported.

I'm doing my first 600 next weekend and am wondering if I should be saving the ride every 200k or so or will it happily record the whole ride as one file?

Can any Garmin 500 users comment either positive or negative experiences?

i used the 500 for pbp and brevet cymru as a data logger, there weren't any issues recording. my pbp ride however has disappeared from the unit after uploading it online..

It tends to crash when on course page with a long course. So if using to navigate split courses down into 200km chunks or shorter. I've since moved back to etrex for long rides but my 500 saw me well for LEL in 2013. On LEL I had a course per leg so generally no course was longer than 100km.  Never had a problem is just recording the track.

I only use it for stats, have an etrex legend for navigation so sounds like I should be OK then. Thanks for the confirmation.
