Are we sure that it is cyclists in general and not Robert Elms getting the abuse whilst cycling?

It's the result of him having witnessed / been recipient of 3 incidents of abuse in a short space of time in Regent's Park.

The discussion is going swimmingly well.

Rob has just admitted he regularly RLJ's - because its safer.

So that's good then.

I dunno.  There are situations where it would be safer to RLJ.  I don't (generally - remembering a recent thread) do it, but maybe if drivers understood that it's sometimes done for safety and not just recklessly, then they might understand our situation better.
