I was hoping the 'twats' mentioned would be dangerous drivers. Sadly, it's blame-the-victim time again.  >:(

I get the impression that advertising agencies usually exist on a different plane of reality to the rest of us.  Where things like right and wrong, common sense and causality work completely differently.

Love all the limerick comments:

Best so far:

The campaign is stupid victim blaming.

But I have no argument with labeling red-light-jumping and riding at night without lights as twattish.

Nearly hit two people on monday; they were riding in the dark, on a narrow cyclepath. Didn't see them until I was right on top of them.

With you there, charly.  However, I also think that for a major agency (or even anyone older than primary school) that limerick in the picture is a crime against literature (English and Irish).  Haven't even got the rhythm right, which is also a crime against cycling.

With you too, MrC, if I can get cars riding at me when I dressed in a RED Nightvision jacket, on my GREEN Inbred and fully lit up on a street-lit suburban street then what chance to those taking stupid risks have?

The trouble is that this campaign doesn't actually need to run now, as the bad publicity it has wrought will carry on it the public's conciousness, and will save the commissioning company a boot load of money.

.....it is owned by Karma Communications which recently moved its 250 staff into new headquarters on Farringdon Road.

That could quite easily  lead to a misaprehension of the relative risks. Personally, there are many riders along the Farringdon Road that get me wanting to wrap those limericks printed on steel plates around their ears.

It's worse - some cyclists' videos were copied and used without permission.

Has Limerick Len defected to the other side, perhaps?  :o

It disgusts me.

"Lorry's".

I'll just put an apostrophe..THERE! Yes, looks good! When an adult doesn't know what the plural of "lorry" is they are plainly a dribbling cockwit who doesn't read for pleasure, yet work in the field of articulating ideas.

Missed the limerick comp but

An agency lacking in taste
Mocked cyclists' deaths, lives gone to waste
A few Tweets on Twitter
Turned it to a quitter
Their doggerel removed with great haste

I was just going to post one, too:

Some adsters, self-modelled on Clarkson,
Caused laughter-inspired infarction
When they tried to write lims
 Calling cyclists all quims
(Though their sheer brazen cheek rather narks one!)

Yes, you wonder if they even know what the t- word really means!

They certainly won't know what the q-word means...

(I've not recovered from the last time that got used in a limerick around here)

IF adsters had used the word c**t
ASA would be on the hunt
To abolish the crude
As well as the lewd
Their lims would be given the shunt.

I'd say, there's nothing the matter
I'll use limericks for my chatter

to castigate cyclists in verse
may seem to be rather perverse
that jocular rhyme
backfired this time
and left them a hole in their purse.

There once were some admen
possessed by the ideas of madmen
without thinking at all
they stuck poems on the wall
and ended up looking like very nasty badmen.

"I'm clearly quite chastened by that!"
Quibbled Kim as she caught the word 'twat'.
 Likewise, 'quim' made her wince,
As she chewed on a quince
(Or could it have been a kumquat?)

Errrr....

I think it's well known on this forum,
and without any need of a quorum,
That I should be deceased,
post rear-ending by "beast",
but recovery turned out quite oresum!!!

However, it is only I who claims to be "completely mad"  :) :) :)

I get the impression that advertising agencies usually exist on a different plane of reality to the rest of us.  Where things like right and wrong, common sense and causality work completely differently.

They operate on the same plane, and get to rinse cash out of companies all for being 'creative'* and having 'vision'.**

It is a brilliant trap to place - after billing shed loads of cash, you as the ad agency just need to make sure that whatever you develop is weird. As long as you do that, nobody on your client's marketing committee can trash it without being accused of 'lacking vision' by the rest of their team and getting shuffled into the accounts department. The client has to accept whatever POS that you give them, providing that it is weird enough.
