Vin flambé?

There my wife was, preparing a simple wine sauce for moules marinieres - we swear it was ordinary wine, 12% ABV white wine, no brandy or anything like that added.  Just come to the boil on the gas hob, and she lifted the lid of the pot and - whoosh!  Orange flames a foot into the air  :o :o :o

I guess a fog of alcohol vapour at just above flashpoint concentration must have accumulated over the liquor in the pot.

Luckily it was controlled burning and easily extinguished, but -   ??? ??? ??? !!!   Has anyone else had this with wine alone?

And the mussels were fine - when we got round to eating them!  :P
