Polish translation needed
« on: 09 February, 2010, 01:22:55 pm »
I've already PMed Cudzo, but this is kind of urgent, so in case he's unavailable, I'll post it generally...

Need a phrase translated into Polish, viz: "Top work, fella!" (or anything idiomatic along those lines)

cheers,

Wspaniala robota.

Phonetically.....  Fspun-yuwer roboter ...... ish

Literally: Excellent work.

Edit - If you're writing it, the letter 'l' should have a forward slash through it - giving it a 'w' sound.

PM me a phone number if you need a quick pronunciation lesson.

Not logged on for a day or two, so only just seen this.

What Jurek said! And he is a native speaker of Polish (tak sądzę), so he has the better idiomatic phrases anyway.

But he doesn't have a Polish keyboard! That funny l looks like this Wspaniała robota! and sounds like a softer version of an English w.

Hah , I could have used that a couple of days ago. The guys have gone now. What a missed opportunity.

That's brilliant, thanks, Jurek! Pronunciation guide not necessary as this is to go in print, but thanks for the offer.

thing1 - I'm slightly wary of online translators - they aren't great on idiomatic language, always tend to be a bit literal. Always best to go to a human source, and I only asked here because I knew we had at least one Polish speaker (completely forgot about Jurek, though - sorry!)

Dammit, I love this forum - there is no limit to its collective knowledge.  ;D
